Bam replied to the topic Is this hay safe to feed my rabbits? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 3 months ago
I can’t say what weed this is, PlantNet gives me several suggestions but no really positive id. Could you ask what type plant it is at the pet store or supplier? I don’t recognize it from any hay I’ve had.
Sometimes local Facebook rabbit groups post about unusual plants theyve found in hay, and that could be good if the hay is sourced locally.…[Read more]

The expiration date on the bag is 29/08/2025. I’ve never seen these in my hay bags before and I don’t know if it’s safe. Do you think it’s ok to still feed to my rabbits?

Apologies for difficulty posting.
Im not sure this is mold. Looks more like some sort of seedhead fluff. Same principle as dandelion fluff although these are obv not dandelions.

I opened a “new” bag of hay today. Hay has been very poor quality over the past couple of years so my parents have been stockpiling the good ones they find. I told them that I buy hay as needed to that it stays as fresh as possible, but they have been having hay regularly delivered to their house so much that the bags end up sitting around for too…[Read more]

Ha, one refused to give me a sample all day. I separated her during the day and she was furious. I let them be together in the evening and then separated again overnight. She had the worst litter habits ever (compared to herself), showing me she knows how to go, just not on my time table.
The other one gave me exactly what I needed immediately. I…[Read more]

It’s great that you’re asking questions. Even people who have had poorly buns before need to ask questions, bc when you have a poorly bun, it’s so stressful that it’s hard to remember anything tbh. Plus its always good to discuss stuff with fellow bun people.
I think fresh leafy greens like herbs etc are good for him now, when he needs extra…[Read more]

Thanks Bam. The cecals look normal. It’s odd bc he was eating them earlier today. I gave him plenty of greens which he did eat. Should I limit the greens until he is eating more hay? Sorry for all the questions. This is the first time he’s been sick.

Metoclopramide is a gut stimulant and it helps the intestinal contents “push” through. I think it’s good that stuff comes out, if the poop is a bit misshapen it could be bc the intestinal contents have not been able to move through quite as swiftly as they should have. This includes the cecals. How do the cecals look?
After a bout of GI trouble…[Read more]

Thank you both! Max’s poop has been increasing in size and is round but after administering Metoclopramide his poop comes out deformed and I find his cecotropes in his liter. Is that normal? Should I continue to administer Metoclopramide every 8 hrs for the full seven days? We are on day three.

Thank you so much! I’ve never seen her molting so heavily then i got concerned. I’ll surely keep on eye on her and watch how things will turn out.
Thank you again!

Omg that picture of Wick kills me 😆
Welcome to BB! I have 4 buns, here is one of them, Special Agent Dale Cooper (aka Coop!):

That’s wonderful news! Agree with Bam!
It’s ok to “spoil him” a bit still 😉 and I agree with continuing the CC until his hay habits especially are back to normal. “Extra” CC won’t hurt him and still has benefits while he continues to recover.

Welcome to BB!

I have a couple, but here is my name’s sake, Wick! This is a popular picture of him when he was molting, haha.

I agree that it looks relatively healthy and non-concerning at this point. If flakes continue to form/populate, I’d be more worried, but an occasional dry skin patch/flakes from normative molting is fine! Many rabbits will have patchy molts, where sections of fur release, exposing bare skin for all to see.

A roll of kraft paper can go a long, just like toilet/papertowel rolls too! Also just switching up the environment a little can be stimulating so the rabbit can explore in “new spaces” without actually moving.
