I would just keep offering the new hay in the meantime, in different ways. Sometimes holding it out by hand can entice them to take a piece. Sometimes they prefer softer pieces or more stemmy pieces so try both. Also sometimes they just want a fresh handful, so giving smaller amounts throughout the day can encourage them to eat it.

I used to have my rabbit in a cage at night when she was a baby. This behaviour didn’t stop until I got a dog pen for her to stay in of a night. They become most active between midnight and 4am so they don’t do well confined during those hours.

Rabbits in the wild spend 16-18 hours a day eating apparently.

My rabbit also didn’t tolerate veg or pellets and had to go on a hay and dried weeds such as dandelion and plantain etc diet only. She never had a mucky bum since. Which was quite the achievement considering she needed daily bum baths when she was young.

Whenever I need my rabbit to ingest water on longer car rides, I serve VERY wet veggies. I’ve never done 6 hours so I’m not sure if it would be enough but just a thought!

Does anyone know if rabbit safe paint exists? I just got a Cottontail Cottage and would love to paint it but don’t know if there’s a good rabbit safe paint out there. My bun is not much of a chewer, especially not with cardboard, so I really wouldn’t be too concerned with her ingesting it, but I know it’s always a risk.

Thank you! I couldn’t get any hay today since I forgot to get some on my way home, and now I don’t know what to feed him during the night. The other hay he’ll eat that I have is alfalfa cubes, my parents bought as a treat (I wouldn’t have picked it but we have it now so). But I know they can only have a little bit once in a while. I don’t w…[Read more]

It depends on the rabbit I feel.

In my experience, usually the rabbit will give in and eat the “less preferred” hay when they realize it’s all they got. Rabbits are foragers and part of that behavior is going through all areas to get the best bits, and only revisiting those sites to get the next best, then the next best, etc… Because of this, I…[Read more]

In the tub, they all seemed pretty stressed out, although, you are right, probably will need a new location soon. 🙁 Since OB and Smokey were doing pretty good towards the end, I added in Silver and extended it 40 minutes. 🙂 All three flopped, there were some grooms too. 😀 So, should I do 1 stress bonding session a day for the next week? In…[Read more]

Pinky has been having what I assume is gas issues yesterday (smelly Pinky). We gave him some Simethicone drops to try to help him.
I was thinking maybe it’s because we bought new hay from a farm feed store, and he’s not eating much of it. He was eating it the night we brought it home, picking through and finding the pieces he likes. Then he sto…[Read more]

Thank you! We just got back from the vet with revolution to treat Pinky’s ear mites. Also treating Muffin to be safe. We’ll be going back to the vet in 4 weeks to make sure the mites are gone.

We’ll be making an appointment with a vet that is hopefully rabbit savvy soon, so we can arrange annual check ups. I asked if the vet has experience in ra…[Read more]

And deep sleep is important for buns, mine sleep deeply most of the day. They might use their box once during the day, or get up and groom or eat cecals for a few minutes, then back to sleep. They do most of their hay-eating overnight, and are most active otherwise morning and evening. They are prey, but wild buns would spend large amounts of time…[Read more]

Awww what a dear. My buns do this too. Bonnie will sometimes make little squeaks when she sleeps. Bertha would do it occasionally too. In that context it is usually a sign of contentment called “clucking”

I don’t know if I would consider just being in the tub as “stress-bonding”, unless you have some alternate source of stress in there? Most stressing usually involves car rides, being carried around in a laundry basket, or sitting on top of the washing machine.

The tub in itself is small, new, and slippery, so maybe slightly stressful, but…[Read more]
