Mautzye started the topic Help! My bunny won’t pee in her cage! in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 12 months ago

Hello! i got my bunny Fria a little under a month ago and she adjusted well to her new environment. a few days after i got her i started using a blanket to cover ONLY the front of her cage (so she doesn’t see me walk around) at night. right after she started exclusively peeing on that blanket. At first she would also pee in her cage but e…[Read more]

    That’s great!

I end up foraging for a lot of mine in spring time. I think plantain is pretty easy to grow (it’s a crazy weed!), but I haven’t had luck growing dandelions myself oddly.

I mostly get my dandelions direct from a farm where we get a CSA (community supported agriculture) box. So maybe check out farmers markets and if there are CSA’s…[Read more]

Well, I stress bonded them today! 😀 Aaaand, they were definitely stressed. 🙁 I put them all in a laundry basket, so there were some forced cuddles. Although, I had to end it after 35 minutes because Smokey peed. 🙄 *Sigh* Should I put them back in their pens afterwards to de-stress? Or should I take them to Semi-neutral? Thank you all in…[Read more]

Thank you!  I know this might be a dumb question – but where do you get your natural forage weeds like dandelion, plantain, sow thistle, fennel, etc.?  I gave Snowball little pieces of dandelion weeds a few days ago for the first time (our family went to a conservation area and there were a ton – I onfirmed no pesticides used), and it actually d…[Read more]

I wonder if you could spritz the pee-d on area with some dilute vinegar and then let it dry in the sun?

DanaNM replied to the topic Is it too soon to vacuum? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 12 months ago

I recently got a rubber broom to sweep up hay before vacuuming and oh boy is it a game changer. Normally I would need to spend forever either hand picking up hay first, or unclog the vacuum several times. Now I just sweep up most of the hay first with the broom and it saves so much time. Also easier to tidy up in between vacuuming.

That seems heavy handed, especially considering the seizures are becoming less frequent. I’m glad you told him that’s not an option. Is she on a flea preventative now? Are there any indicators that point towards a flea born infection or is he just assuming because he can’t find anything else? Is she running a fever or anything like that?

    It’s…[Read more]

Hey, I’m Canadian too!:-) Yes, it’s getting cold for us here too. I agree with @Bam, who said that bunnies don’t really need to be kept super warm unless it is very cold. They have lots of fur, and as long as food keeps moving through them, they’ll be warm. But something that I found online is something called a Snuggle Safe heat pad that you…[Read more]

Thanks for the info! Here’s another photo. There’s another little spot right under his mouth. I know it’s bad quality, so hard to get a good photo. ):

I heard about the drooling, not sure if they checked his teeth at the vet a few days ago. He eats well though. Could it be from drinking out of a water bowl? He has a more rounded chin, rather than pointed.

There are scent glands under the chin, but honestly I am unsure how they present…. I just know chinning is the rabbit thing, haha. That bump, I hope is just a scent gland. I’ll defer to other members for that question particularly.

Regarding dental problems, the reason this connection is made is because dental discomfort typically leads to the…[Read more]

The bunnies go back to the vet in about 4 weeks (not rabbit savvy) but I just noticed this bald spot next to Muffin’s mouth. There’s a vet that’s *possibly* rabbit savvy in my area, we could make an appointment but it would be booked in a few weeks. Do you guys have any idea what it could be? It’s really hard to look at that area. I searche…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Is it best to have new bunny in seperate room until spayed in the forum BONDING 6 years ago

If you’re willing to do immediate separation right away, I would recommend just going forward with that. Not much long-standing progress can be made in 2-3 weeks and the spay will end up wiping the slate somewhat clean since they have barely known each other!

One reason I could think of to justify moving them into the same room (still separated)…[Read more]

Hello! I currently have a netherland dwarf who is around 1 year and 6 months old and he is neutered. I have had him for a year and am getting a female 6 month old holland lop tomorrow!

I am going to get her spayed about 2-3 weeks after we have had her so she can feel a bit more stable with the environment. I was thinking it would be best to keep…[Read more]

How  cold does it get where your buns are? 14 -19 degrees C are ideal for rabbits. They still won’t get cold if if the temp drops below zero, if they have time to adjust gradually. In below zero temps you must change their water twice daily, because it will freeze – of course.

As long as rabbits are sheltered from wind, rain and snow, they are…[Read more]

Also, I remembered this thread from several years ago of another member with suspected megacolon:

I agree with Wick that the fur could just be from ingesting so much fur.

That is great that you have hit on a diet that prevents stasis. With megacolon buns, the poops may never be normal, but preventing the stasis-diarrhea-gas cycle is the main goal, and maintaining muscle mass.

How is his weight? Megacolon buns tend to lose muscle mass and…[Read more]

I would say as often as you see fit. It might get just a bit more and more furry each week with specs of hay, and if a vigorous fanning outside doesn’t get rid of it, you can throw it in the wash. I do my rabbit’s blankets maybe once every 1-2 months if they didn’t get hit with anything?
