I would suspect a dental problem.  As you say, they molars can often not be properly seen unless the bun is sedated, although a good rabbit vet can often get an idea by looking with an otoscope when the bun is burritoed. Dental x-rays are the only way to see  the tooth roots.  Overgrown teeth are a very common thing with rabbits.

Oh wow. Did the previous owner indicate that there was possibility of pregnancy when you took them on? It’s a lot for you to now deal with. I suppose I good thing to stop the cycle though?

I personally feel a bit torn on this… it would be safer all around to separate them but it’s sad too, if they’ve been companions for a few years. That said,…[Read more]

    Hey,

    Thanks for the response.

The urine was a little cloudy and I think the vet might have thought there was more than the usual amount of calcium. She has been a vet awhile so I supoose I trust her, but Idk…

He had been on antibiotics for what we thought was too much bacteria in his poop and urine… I wonder if that antibiotic is why his…[Read more]

Calcium in urine is normal. As long as he doesn’t have sludge or bladder stones, I’m not sure why the vet would think this is an issue.

Meadow hay isn’t a specific type of grass. It can be a mix of grasses, which can vary, and may also contain things like clover. There is nothing wrong with feeding meadow hay, but it could have more calcium if it…[Read more]

I’m told rabbits really like orchard grass so it’s certainly worth getting a sample to see if he likes it. Are you looking to switch because of calcium content or is he showing less interest in his hay lately?

This chart has been around many years and gives a bit of an idea of the nutritional content of different hays. htt…[Read more]

    Binky Free, Roxie!

    What an absolute beauty <3

I am sorry for you and your girlfriends loss. Roxie sounds like she was well loved – as it should be.

It’s natural for bunnies to want to chew, especially when they are young. Is he neutered yet? Neutering can help with this type of behavior, but not completely. If he loves baseboards in particular, then I would recommend covering them with cardboard. As for the door, can you wrap the slats with cardboard as well?

You can, of course, always make…[Read more]

Yesterday we lost our 14 year baby Roxie 💔 She was SOOOO smart, silly, precious, and a joy for all these years. Her arthritis was getting bad and as time went on she started to have a number of complications. She was soo strong and even in her old age she was still so playful and in the look out for her treats 🍌 My girlfriend had to make the…[Read more]

    Hi,

We are new and excited to be here. I came cause I have a question and need help… I have had my darling sweetheart Sheepoo for about 8.5 years now and I have been feeding him Meadow Hay in the past so many years along with Timothy Hay.

I was thinking about adding and/or changing the Meadow Hay to Orchard Grass Hay… Any thoughts?!

    Note:…[Read more]

What is her diet like? Perhaps it’s something she is eating that is causing the distress.

My 5 mon old Netherlands dwarf named Baylor tries to chew everything. He’s gotten to a few of the baseboards, and I don’t own the house I’m staying in so I can’t afford for him to destroy the house. Plus it’s a new build, which makes it worse. I let him out for free roam time, but he has to be in a fence because he will chew all of the baseboard…[Read more]

Hello, and very welcome to BinkyBunny! 🙂

Separating them is unfortunately for the best. My ladies went through something similar, only, they were having false pregnancies. Silver was the first one, and oh, she was bad. She tore fur from the other buns as well as herself, so, as much as it pained me, I separated them. 😥 Smokey went next, and…[Read more]

Sorry to post this a few weeks late, but I wanted to chime in on my experience with this, although it won’t be very helpful at all. I had my Desmond James for 6 years and he went through the same exact thing, for the first few years he’d get GI stasis every few months or so, maybe 3 or 4 times a year and it was always pretty easy to treat. During…[Read more]
