Ah then it is probably just his body naturally maturing and him showing his assets, haha. Sometimes he may ‘suck’ them in, so you won’t see them. Neutering is not as necessary for males as spaying is in females, since females have a high risk for uterine cancer. That being said, the accompanying hormones can make some males pretty destructive and…[Read more]

Thank you so much!ย I’m really hoping that the little bit of good news this morning means that he is on his way to recovery.ย ๐

LOL Wick you have the best of both worlds! My Muffin only does what I saw someone call a half-binky. He stands up on his back legs for a second and shakes his head and body. Could just be fluffing up his fur but he looks excited!

I’m so glad to hear that your bun seems to be doing a bit better! Prebiotics won’t harm, the question is if they really help, which is why vets can be reluctant about giving them.
Bunny specific prebiotic as a rule contain saccharomyces cerevisiae, which is an important yeast that’s active in the rabbit gut.
Fingers so crossed for your little boy!

Nope, not swollen. He’s not neutered yet, its difficult to find rabbit savvy docs here.

He has not had any diarrhea since this all started.ย I did go visit him in the hospital last night, and was able to get the vet to give him the probiotics I brought with me (Bene Bac).ย I also ordered a rabbit specific probiotic online that I plan to give him when I am able to take him home again.ย The vet gave him something for nausea as well, wh…[Read more]

Also, when you have the time to actively hang out with him, try to pet him andย perhaps also talk to him a lot, in a low and fairly childish voice (animals respond better to childlike voices). Petting releases oxytocin, which has a calming effect and increases wellbeing- unless he’s a bun who actually dislikes be touched. Give him twigs (apple,…[Read more]

I recommend clipping a bed sheet or something along the outside so he cannot see outside the pen.

Bam replied to the topic How many times a day should they be eating cecotropes? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 11 months ago
They can absolutely eat their cecotropes, which you have spelled correctly, at any time, really. Cecotropes used to be called night droppings, but rabbits definitely often eat them during the day as well. There’s a neuronal signal that alerts the bun when a cecotrope is on the way, and the bun responds by reaching down and eating the emerging…[Read more]

So, I’ve been in contact with our Canadian member. She had a UV-bulb for her bun when she was living abroad, for use during the 6 months of the year when going outside was too hot for a rabbit. She had it mounted above his litterbox, so he’d sit in the light while he did his business. It was on for approx 6 hours per evening. Her bun would…[Read more]

Hello,
My bunny went to the vet on Monday with a sprained ankle and has been put on cage rest until he’s fully recovered. He’s currently confined to a fairly small puppy pen but has been biting non stop on the cage bars and shaking it furiously trying to open the door.
Could anyone recommend something to help with this behaviour and keep him…[Read more]

I’m sorry you are going through this. The main issue with Convenia is the possibility of dysbiosis of the gut microbiota, which is why probiotics could be beneficial. Probiotics are (still) considered more or less experimental and not a legitimate veterinary treatment for a very sick bun.
I hope you will get more answers. Has your rabbit had…[Read more]

Things have been going a little iffy lately. ๐
They have gone back to acting bonded half the time. I don’t know, Silver’s been acting the same toward both of them – she now nips OB sometimes! ๐ฎ OB is pretty neutral towards both of them, well, she does chase Smokey sometimes…What I really think the issue is, is curving Silver’s temper, and…[Read more]

I have a boy bunny who is less than a year and a half old.ย Basically I took him in to vet #1 for what they said was an ear infection and a skin infection, where they cleaned him up and gave him a Convenia antibiotic shot.ย He didn’t eat at all afterwards except a few nibbles, so Friday I took him to vet #2 who said that the problem was more t…[Read more]

Thanks for the feedback. To be honest after talking to the vet I was really set on rehoming her because I thought it was in her best interest. But talking to the rescue totally changed my mind and made me think it was in her best interest to keep her ๐ maybe I should have called more than one rescue. Sadly where I am.now I do not think its at all…[Read more]

Thanks for your thoughts Wick! It’s hard to say what has worked and what hasn’t. Certain situations had less fighting (like the short bathtub sessions), but then the bunnies weren’t behaving normally. So hard to say. Longer sessions at the shelter were OK. Some scuffles, some ignoring. Nothing crazy but lots of intervention needed from me. My…[Read more]
