That is strange that they would require an exam each time. My vet’s office will just send a vet tech out to do it.

Yes, rabbits absolutely have ear wax. Lops tend to have more trouble getting it out naturally, bit uppy eared bunnies can have problems too depending on the shape of their ear canal. One of my rabbits had an earwash that the vet prescribed. It was for dogs. You just had to be careful with it. While it did loosen debris and dry things out, it could…[Read more]

It might be worth trying some different ways of doing it by yourself in this case. It’s really frustrating that your vet will require an exam every time. I know some members with really squirmy buns will just clip one at a time (while bun is just resting on the ground) and keep a schedule of which nail is next. I’ve even seen people clicker train…[Read more]

Bam, thank you so much for educating me again!

I had no idea rabbits can collect that amount of wax in their ears, the moment i saw i was shocked!

I’ll talk to my vet again and i’ll keep checking her ears so far.

    Thank you!

    Rabbits do have ear wax.

Lop rabbits are prone to ear infections. It’s much the same as with dogs with hanging ears (cocker spaniels etc). Wax and debris can build up in the outer ear canal, and since the canal is narrow and the area is poorly ventilated, it’s an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive in.  This can lead to serious infection if…[Read more]

    Hello everyone!

My rabbit is having a real bad time dealing with molt season and high temperatures mixed all together on this summer in Brasil.

Recently, i posted about the fur loss (which is already grown) and how i noticed a little scabbing on the tip of her left ear. Thankfully, the scabbing is disappearing and the veterinarian said it might…[Read more]

Thank you both. I feel reassured. I am sure she is not sick as she is generally relaxed and food/toilet is completely normal. I will take a chill pill and see how she is in a few more weeks and then hopefully cam then start looking for her Mr Right.

    Thank you again

My rabbit has been undergoing treatment for chronic snuffles since July ‘23. She’s just home from her second rhinostomy.

obviously a bacterial culture swab so you can know exactly what you’re dealing with and therefore can use targeted antibiotics would be best, but if that’s not possible I would discuss nebulising with your vet. There’s…[Read more]

No I was told to do a culture they would have to put him to sleep

last time he was out to sleep and given the meds to wake him up when he had an ultrasound at a hospital location, he did very bad. He came home and had gi stasis and took him a week to go back to normal. He didn’t want to eat and was not himself. So don’t know how they would get…[Read more]

Based on the timing it does sound like it could be the “post-spay craze”! It should settle down in a few more weeks! Def keep an eye on her eating, pooping and drinking habits to make sure there isn’t something medical going on.

I would wait to start the bonding process until she is settled again.

I would set up a pen around if possible, and a carrier or box with some food in it to try to encourage her to go into that as a hiding space instead. She is likely still very afraid. If you can use a broom or soemthing to reach under and shoo her out into a pen or carrier that would make it easier to catch her.

That’s tough, has your vet done a culture of the respiratory infection to see which antibiotics could work?

1 week apart does seem like a long interval, but my only experience with pen-g injections were for a dental abscess.
