What has drastically declined since muh1960s is the quality of food – you’d have to eat 4 or 5 oranges today to match the nutritional value of 1 orange your grandparents ate – and what has drastically expanded is the amount of chemicals, additives, hormones, antibiotics and other such stuff that is in absolutely EVERYTHING, even water.

She got over her nesting episode probably about a week before, and iirc, her first bout of GIS, which was over a year ago, also came on suddenly, the vet puzzled as to why. I’m guessing she’s prone to it, which means I’ll be keeping a VERY close eye on her and adjust her food to something most closely resembling a wild rabbit’s diet.

    Based on…[Read more]

Hi! We just got our first bunny, a 2 month old Holland lop named Skippy! He is so cute, playful, and smart! We have a large cage for him, but for play time + extra exercise we let him out and we like to use a foldable pen to limit his space since he is still being trained and also we like to use it in our rooms that are not carpeted since he still…[Read more]

He’s been acting pretty normal. Eating and drinking and pooping! Next time I’m gonna make sure he’s not out while I’m eating lol. Sometimes he’s really determined.

    Yay!

It is a very slow-acting med, so it often takes quite some time (weeks) before there’s any apparent improvement. Some rabbits will need a longer course of Panacur than the standard 28 days.

Thank you both for your guidance! I appreciate learning more about rabbits, especially since I’m a new rabbit owner. Hopefully Shippo and I can have a life long bonding relationship.

Rabbit’s don’t really acknowledge “family units”. Mothers will try to mate with sons, siblings will mate with each other… so the concept of family is not really registered as how “typical” humans may think of it. There’s a reason why, in order to bond two rabbits, you need to fix both and spend potentially at least a month systematically…[Read more]

Is she peeing on herself? As in, it seems to be uncontrollable, thus she is soiling her own fur/her legs? That would be a more clear sign that there is a problem.

Since you recently moved, I do wonder if this is just her marking the new territory? The color change, as long as it’s not blood, is most likely harmless. Healthy rabbit pee comes in a…[Read more]

I guess so it’s just strange he hasn’t done it in a long time, I rescued him in March 2020. I guess do our rabbits see us as family or anything like a dog or cat would? I have had tons cats, dogs, birds, horses, however a rabbit is new to me.

He’s not doing this to assert his dominance or anything like that, you’re not a bunny and he doesn’t see you as part of the hirarchy. Rabbits seem to just enjoy peeing on soft surfaces, even more so if they have a strong scent on them, so a bed is a prime target. Because of this, some rabbits just can’t be allowed on couches or beds unfortunately.…[Read more]

@Bernard2020 – not sure Dorian’s breed… he’s a rescue bun, the shelter didn’t know. He’s on the smaller side (I think about 3lbs) so may be a mini of something. Your guess is as good (if not better) than mine! I think he looks a bit like the pearls, but he has the white socks and collar and he’s a tad darker depending on the molt.

    @Hazel

My dog once tried to steal some lettuce when I was preparing Esther’s meal then she got mad at me like I made her eat it lol.

We have so many cats and other animals (foxes, coons, possums, very occasional deer and coyote, etc) that I don’t really feel comfortable taking Esther outside.

She’s definitely starting to get more comfo…[Read more]

Would liquid panacur for dogs be available  online perhaps? Even hypothetically, it is difficult to say how much of the horse paste is an ok dose for a rabbit, since this product seems to be measured by weight and not by volume?

A normal dose for a bun is 20 mg per kilo body weight. One gram of the horse panacur contains 100 mg of fenbendazole,…[Read more]

Hello, my bunny Trixie has some symptoms of a UTI including,

    • Frequent urination, but only in small amounts(kind of)
    • Urinary incontinence, especially during confinement or at places that are not customary (i.e., locations she has not peed before)
    • Her pee is a bit different in color too (cloudy yellow, orange, and sometimes red, I haven’t…

Agree with Hazel. With a bite that required a vet visit, it’s best to give some time to calm down with no pre-bonding or bonding sessions. Then start from scratch with pre-bonding and dating.

Positive behaviors are grooming, cuddling, sharing food, sharing litter box, etc. When bonding, you want to stay in neutral territory until you see lots of…[Read more]
