I agree that a sanitary shave can help a lot. Bun Jovi had this exact issue due to his arthritis and hind leg weakness. I had the vet do the first shave, and then I maintained it myself after that. Would a sanitary shave help? That’s what we did for my elderly bun. He would still get poo stuck to his hind legs, but it came off pretty easily with shampoo and a butt bath.

I’d say keep an eye on it for now, but I am not a vet and I can’t give veterinary advice. Hay can cause problems if a piece of hay or a grass seed etc gets lodged in the nasal cavity or between two teeth etc – but it’s not like we rabbit caretakers can not give our rabbits hay. Hopefully this will resolve on its own.

No i haven’t seen snot in her nose or a runny eye.

She could have “breathed in” a piece of hay that got stuck. Sometimes this happens, and not bc of hand feeding, just bc pieces of hay can be very sharp. Do you see any thick (opaque) snot around her nose? A runny eye?

You calcute the dose by the strenght in mg per ml times the amount in ml and divide by the buns weight in kilos. You have “dog strenght” meloxicam, which is the appropriate strenght for a rabbit. It is soooo stressful dealing with a chronically ill bunny, you are certainly welcome to vent here, this is a safe space for that. I went through it with a foster at one point, and then again with my senior in the final 6 months of his life. It definitely takes a toll on you, and most non-rabbit people just don’t get it.

Sometimes creams can make things worse as they flatten the fur that’s remaining. I would focus on keeping her environment clean, dry, and as soft and cushioned as possible. Memory foam mattress toppers and bath mats are great for sore hocks.

I see bonding/neutral territory as helping buns get closer to each other. However, these two are very close as is with no fights already. With these two, they will not get closer with this tactic either; YoungBun will naively go and explore while ElderBun sticks to safety. I’ll see what I can do to get them closer though.

Last friday he was prescribed a bottle of “Apo-Meloxicam Suspension 1.5 mg/ml ” with a dose of 1.2 mL every 12 hours for the first day (10:30am and 10:30pm friday) then decrease to 0.6 mL every 12 hours for 6 days. This is his fourth day.
