Thank you SO much for your response!!

Green veggies definitely make the stains green-er, but he cleans the area after eating, and they go back to how they usually look, unless we clean it. The picture is a more extreme example but usually there’s a green tint and long green clumps of hair either side of his mouth.

The stains don’t smell like…[Read more]

It looks like juice from greens. If he has a dental problem he could be drooling a bit because he chews more slowly and perhaps gets more saliva and or dont swallow like he normally does? Does he get fresh greens at all?

It doesnt ring any liver- or kidney bells with me, but I’ll look it up in case I’m wrong. You can sometimes see green poop if…[Read more]

What could be causing these matted, green stains around my rabbit’s mouth???

My rabbit, Ronnie, started getting green, matted stains, as shown in the picture 2 weeks ago. My partner and I clean the area with a damp warm towel every time we notice it happening, and that usually does the trick and keeps it away for a few days. If it’s real bad…[Read more]

Hi, I’ve posted here about my little bun Theo before – here’s a brief summary just in case:

2 months old – sneezing/discharge as soon as he came home. Active and eating/drinking fine. Saw vet – possible pasteurella and on gentle antibiotics and probi for 4 weeks. Clear exam for heart/lungs.

3 months – Still sneezing, though his stethoscope exam…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Neutered rabbit pees on my bed during the night in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 9 months ago

A lot of rabbit’s have this problem unfortunately because the bed is soft and smells strongly of humans. Either block access to the bed, or some people have success with putting a shower curtain (or similar) under the top blanket. The plastic blocks the smell of the bed which makes the bun less likely to pee, and if they do pee it’s an easier clean up.

She could be picking up on your stress since you two are so closely bonded. Did you give her a tummy rub? Also, were you interacting with her a the time of day that she’s normally active? I know sometimes in the middle of the day I convince myself that Bun Jovi is ill, when he’s really just sleeping!

It might be fun and informative to try some…[Read more]

Do you use the same sheets but just wash them whenever he pees? If you haven’t bought brand new sheets, he might still be able to smell his pee in the bed. Has it leaked down to the mattress?

Gotcha! The spaying/neutering situation has been really hard with covid. So many members have been saying they’ve had to wait really long times!

It’s true that females can be a bit more territorial, but it’s hard to gauge how rabbits will be with other rabbits in neutral space. I think inquiring with the shelter about some dates after she’s…[Read more]

Elm is listed as bunny safe. The leaves have been very popular with my buns.

Maple wood is sale for rabbits, elm should be ok from what I’ve read but I would be extra carful with that one since it is not as popular of a pet wood.

I second the APD hay. It’s softer and smells lovely. My picky, spoiled lionhead loves APD timothy gold and the APD feedtastic one. Give it a try. 🙂

My bunnies’ favorite hay is American Pet Diner Timothy Gold.   They also get a variety of Oxbow hays, but APD is their preferred one.  It always seems fresh and fragrant and not as dry as some other hays seem to be. It is a second cutting hay, so it’s softer, and doesn’t have as much fiber, but it sounds like your bunny is getting a lot of fi…[Read more]

I’ve been using a plastic shower curtain from the dollar store on top of dollar store memory foam mats. Then I put dollar store blankets on top. Lol! It works to keep the floor dry. A thick tarp works too. You just need to make sure you tuck it under the mats so it won’t get chewed. Even when my bunnies get to it sometimes, they don’t eat it.…[Read more]

    Yes, she is spayed.

She is still making happy sounds whenever I give her head rubs, and she certainly didn’t say no to that slice of apple I offered her yesterday, so I guess she feels okay…? It’s just that it’s odd for her to not jump at the opportunity of getting out of her hutch, she’s too… quiet. I understand for some bunnies this is norm…[Read more]
