I agree with LBJ, the most common cause of uveitis and cataracts are EC. EC is very common in rabbits, and cataracts in young rabbits often mean the bun has contracted the parasite in its mother’s womb.

A blood test is the most common way to test for EC. The EC parasite is shed in the urine for only a short period of time, so a urine sample is…[Read more]

Thanks! OK, so what’s the question then? What they found doesn’t surprise me at all considering it was clear she had uveitis in that eye. There are several potential causes. The most common cause of uveitis (and cataracts) in young bunnies is EC, especially if there is no known traumatic injury to the eye. Since Bernard is not displaying any…[Read more]

    Thank you for rescuing them!

If you are planning to keep them all, and want this room to be more livable long term, there are lots of bunny-proofing types in the “Bunny Info” section at the top of the page. “NIC” cube storage grids are especially useful for blocking access to areas and for making temporary housing that could be reconfigured later…[Read more]

Oops sorry. I PM’ed you Dana but I don’t mind typing up the info. Here’s what it says:

”We noted a cataract of the left eye, which was classified as immature at this point. Immature signifies that she is still able to see around the cataract. We also noted sheets of inflammatory material between the iris and lens, telling us that there has bee…[Read more]

    Hello everyone!

I am new here, and I have a problem.

My neighbor had these three rabbits, that she decided she couldn’t care for. She said that she couldn’t care for them, and was going to put them to the pound, so in a moment of weakness, I took them in.

Since I have slippery wooden floors they cannot free-roam. I am trying to give them the…[Read more]

So I just got back from the eye specialist with Bernard and I have a few questions about what everything means. I attached a pic of basically everything the doctor said. He said she will be tested for EC. I heard the normal way of doing that is taking liquid from the eyes but he said he’s going to do a blood test to see if she has any a…[Read more]

I get Green Roads for my elderly ferret. I like it and it seems to be well regarded online. It’s the only one I’ve tried though so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I haven’t given any to my rabbit so I can’t give any rabbit specific advice.

Bam replied to the topic Could mold be the problem for Charlie? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 9 months ago

I do think mould could have contributed to Charlie’s problems. He is young, I dont know how old Pip is, but young animals are as a rule more sensitive due to their immune defense not yet being fully mature.

That said, longer courses of abx and combinations/change of types of abx during the course of treatment is not at all uncommon with rabbit…[Read more]

Also thought I should mention the guest room is upstairs and Charlie isn’t allowed upstairs. Although the dirt that was coming out of a ceiling register is downstairs. I put a filter in it for now to prevent more coming out. We’ve turned off air conditioning and opened windows. Fortunately the weather is cooler now.

We also just purchased a new…[Read more]

Fingers crossed the new meds will work. As Im sure you know, Doxycyklin is on Medirabbit’s list of rabbit-safe antibiotics. You seem to have a good vet who listens ro you, which is so very important!

We had an appt set up for this morning to have our air ducts cleaned. We’ve had some black dry dirt coming out from them recently and looking at some other registers I saw signs of possible mold on the metal grates. My husband and I have also been having some severe sinus issues last 4-5 weeks. I just came off antibiotic and still have drainage a…[Read more]

Vet decided yesterday to switch Charlie’s antibiotic to Doxycycline for 7 days. She had no problem with it last night or this morning. I was willing to give the other another chance if he wanted but he thought best to switch for now. She’s sneezing a bit more today and had a small amount of thick discharge on her whiskers. We moved some thing aro…[Read more]

Thanks all!  Fortunately our bunny has not taken much interest in the rug (yet) so we haven’t had to put anything down!  She has had some “accidents” but only on the hard wood floor or in the bed we got her.

Would it be a deterrent if you cut pieces of fabric and tied them (so they are hanging like icicles; not creating loops to hang onto) all over the ceiling of the cage? I’m just thinking of visual distractors that make the ceiling less of an inviting place to crash into.
