Bonding, especially 24/7 bonding, can be stressful for rabbits. It sounds like your female might have been having a bit of GI discomfort, but that it probably passed (sometimes they just get a gas bubble that makes them very uncomfortable for a short while). Were they getting extra treats or pellets during bonding? I’m wondering if maybe she…[Read more]

Would a sanitary shave help? That’s what we did for my elderly bun. He would still get poo stuck to his hind legs, but it came off pretty easily with shampoo and a butt bath.

Spay/Neuter
Are your bunnies spayed/neutered?Yes, 2+ years for both
Housing
Please describe your bunnies’ current housing set-up (living together, as neighbors, etc.).We’ve been bonding using the 24/7 method since last Tuesday (December 26). We were in a neutral location that was not at their permanent home due to lack of neutral zones in t…[Read more]

Fresno has been doing fairly well except for the fact that he’s been very messy with his cecals. He doesn’t reach down to his bum area to get the cecals directly from the source, but rather, he’ll dispense them and then turn around and look for them on the floor to then eat. This isn’t always effective – not to mention it makes the floor messy…[Read more]

I’d say keep an eye on it for now, but I am not a vet and I can’t give veterinary advice. Hay can cause problems if a piece of hay or a grass seed etc gets lodged in the nasal cavity or between two teeth etc – but it’s not like we rabbit caretakers can not give our rabbits hay. Hopefully this will resolve on its own.
If you start seeing thick…[Read more]

She could have “breathed in” a piece of hay that got stuck. Sometimes this happens, and not bc of hand feeding, just bc pieces of hay can be very sharp. Do you see any thick (opaque) snot around her nose? A runny eye?

Hi everyone, i like to hand feed my bunny hay sometimes as a way to bond and on Sunday i put some hay close to her face and she started sneezing and ever since then i have been hearing her sneeze.
is this something that will go away with time or should i be concerned?

You calcute the dose by the strenght in mg per ml times the amount in ml and divide by the buns weight in kilos. You have “dog strenght” meloxicam, which is the appropriate strenght for a rabbit. Rabbits need a lot more meloxicam than dogs and cats. My 2 kilo bun was prescribed meloxicam for a 10 kilo dog when he was poorly, and that was quite…[Read more]

It is soooo stressful dealing with a chronically ill bunny, you are certainly welcome to vent here, this is a safe space for that. I went through it with a foster at one point, and then again with my senior in the final 6 months of his life. It definitely takes a toll on you, and most non-rabbit people just don’t get it.
Sending good vibes for…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Advice on bonding a trio in the forum BONDING 2 years, 1 month ago
So, disclaimer that I have tried and failed to bond a trio a few times LOL, so take my advice with a grain of salt (I have 2 girls that absolutely did not want to be bonded so I stopped trying).
Is is possible for you to house all the single buns in the same room? If not, then I think it would be beneficial to rotate which buns are neighbors, so…[Read more]

Sometimes creams can make things worse as they flatten the fur that’s remaining. I would focus on keeping her environment clean, dry, and as soft and cushioned as possible. Memory foam mattress toppers and bath mats are great for sore hocks.

I see bonding/neutral territory as helping buns get closer to each other. However, these two are very close as is with no fights already. With these two, they will not get closer with this tactic either; YoungBun will naively go and explore while ElderBun sticks to safety. I’ll see what I can do to get them closer though.
They are *both*…[Read more]

Yes thank you LBJ10 and Bam for the suggestions! He’s improving a little more!
Last friday he was prescribed a bottle of “Apo-Meloxicam Suspension 1.5 mg/ml ” with a dose of 1.2 mL every 12 hours for the first day (10:30am and 10:30pm friday) then decrease to 0.6 mL every 12 hours for 6 days. This is his fourth day.
He’s underweight right now at…[Read more]

I’m glad to hear you have found some solutions to the lack of drinking. Hopefully that will help a bit. If you don’t mind us asking, what dosage is he getting of meloxicam?

He is still lying down most of the time and showing signs of discomfort and pain despite being on Meloxicam which worries me… do some bunnies have a bad response or…[Read more]

The scab came off today and there was a small open wound, so I took her into emerge just in case as her regular vet can’t see her for over a week as they are so backed up. Thank you everyone for your responses!
