Considering his size, he’s probably a dwarf mix as well. Dwarf rabbits can have babies that do not carry the dwarfism gene (false dwarf). So… I’m going to guess a dwarf mix.

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but his coloring looks to be a tricolor. Maybe blue/fawn/white variety? The harlequin pattern gene has been introduced into a lot of…[Read more]

Bam, yes, I have read some studies looking at moxidectin and fur mites. That is in the same family as selamectin, but may be different enough that it would work on fur mites that have developed resistance to selamectin.

They no longer make the original Advantage (as far as I know). The original formula only had imidacloprid. The formula was…[Read more]

Also to clarify when I said to ignore her in the other post, what I really meant was pretend to ignore her 😉 So you could be reading a book or watching a movie in the same room, but also be keeping an ear out…[Read more]

Sometimes lettuce, especially “bagged” lettuce, is a bit off. Like it doesn’t smell very appetizing. Bunnies may snub lettuce if they think it smells funny. I’ve had that happen before.

Spring mix can be great. Just look at the ingredients. Keep in mind that even if it does contain items higher in oxalates, it will still be OK if they only make…[Read more]

I am planning to free roam my rabbit some time in the future but for now I want to bunny proof my room so I can give my rabbit more free roam time. As of right now I have to watch her super closely while letting her out but I would love to start bonding with her. Someone said to ignore her and just let her come to me and sniff me but that’s d…[Read more]

She eats super well and her poops are very regular. She loves to binky around and is normally pretty active. We also did get her spayed a little while ago and had a mini check up then and everything was completely fine.
I’m definitely gonna try some of your bonding tips to see if that helps. Thanks you so much for your help

NalaBunny replied to the topic Mats to go beneath pen and protect floor? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 5 years, 7 months ago

Ya I think the puzzle mats would work great. Try to leave absolutely no exposed edges. This will prevent your rabbit from chewing the edges and corners. My rabbit is an extreme digger and has caused me a few problems.

To solve this I took a box and cut out the top with an entrance that she has to jump into (like a tall litter box). I filled this…[Read more]

Oh wow, you’ve had her a while! There are some bunnies that do seem to be somewhat antisocial. But there are also some that just take a really long time to come out of their shell. Forum leader Bam’s bunny Bam decided after about a year that he liked her and suddenly liked exploring.

Other tips for bonding include doing lots of hand-feeding. You…[Read more]

I would use puzzle play mats. These are waterproof and if you place it to were there are no exposed edges it is very unlikely that she will chew on it. Also a great place to get sea grass mats are from 101rabbits.

My bunny, Nala, seems to always be bored. I have a large 6’ by 8’ cage. I have several hide houses, lots of toys, and even a dig box. Even with all this she just sits in a corner and digs the entire day. Do you think I should get nic grids and try to add a more structured design or something else. I would really appreciate some help on this, I jus…[Read more]

Thank you so much I will definitely try that, I’ve had her for around a year now. I don’t think she has a problem with her cage just because she willingly comes out during her free roam time and loves to jump around as long as I leave her alone.

I think with the free roaming thing I’m gonna keep her cage at first and just leave the door open…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Advice on bonding with my rescue bun 🙂 in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago

In my opinion, since you now know you can pick him up if needed, I would only pick him up when you need to (like for nail trims, etc.).

I think it’s important for owners to be able to pick up there rabbit for necessary things, especially like in an emergency, but I don’t really think it’s necessary or helpful to the bond with the rabbit to…[Read more]

How long have you had her? It can take buns a bit to adjust.

I recommend spending as much time as possible in the room with her, but ignore her completely. Allow her to come out and explore when she feels ready. My recent foster-fail was very shy and cage aggressive at the shelter, and had no interest in coming out of her pen for the first week…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Homemade Rabbit Pellets in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago

While a lot of rabbit pellets used to be geared towards breeding and did not have great ingredients, there are a lot of brands now that are tailored to house rabbits and use high quality ingredients. Since most of these brands only recommend feeding a small amount to the rabbit, the pellet is actually one of the cheapest parts of my rabbit’s diet.…[Read more]

My buns got kind of sick of spring mix as well. I think the soft leaves are not as appealing to them as more robust crunchy leaves. I might be OK to give daily, depending on what is in it. Some spring mixes have a lot of spinach and baby chard/silver beet, which also has a lot of oxalate. But others are more of a variety of lettuces. You might try…[Read more]

Hi everyone! I have a petition going for access to vaccines in North America and would appreciate signatures. With the new administration dealing with Covid I’m sure RHD is not the first thing being brought to their attention. I’ve already emailed the White House and reminded my senator but am hoping to get more signatures before I close this.…[Read more]
