Hmm… I would think the combined antibiotics would have taken care of it if it was a bacterial infection. Yes, there are resistant bacteria, but that is a less common scenario. I would be interested to hear if they did a culture for yeast just to make sure it wasn’t that. Yeast does take longer to culture too, so perhaps the results just aren’t back yet?

Oh really?! That’s good to hear that it gets better. I’ve also heard how common it is to squirt the pen meds all over the bun’s back. Thank gosh he was okay 🙂
I think I’m just having trouble actually grabbing his fur and making the V or ‘tent’ shape. He doesn’t seem to have a lot of flesh either. Also I need to get more swift with the syringe…[Read more]

Pen injections aren’t too bad once you get the hang of them, but I was def terrified the first time I did one. I of course poked too far through and squirted penicillin all over my poor bun’s back, then had to frantically clean it up and hope that I got it all (he was fine, but woof).
But then I got a pep talk and it got a lot better! It’s…[Read more]

He really is so cute 🙂
Since you mentioned his eating habits, just wanted to mention that lionheads are starting to build a reputation for dental problems. So if you notice a change in his eating habits, def get a molar exam.

Hmm, I’m actually not sure whether they did it just for bacteria or for fungi too. I’ll ring up the vet and ask. Thanks for the idea. He was on anti-inflammatory meds (metacam/meloxicam) for 7 days. After that, we tried something new. We administered the topical liquid ear treatment (enroflaxacin) for 7 days. During that period, he also had…[Read more]

I understand the predicament. I think since she was happily bonded at one point (which only broke because a bunch of unspayed females upset things), then she would likely be happier to be re-bonded, especially with you leaving for a while. It also sounds like the other attempt would have worked out with more time.
An older or younger bunny would…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic litter issue, 1 bunny ruining the other's good habits in the forum BEHAVIOR 5 years, 6 months ago
Thanks for the extra info, but it really doesn’t change my suggestions at all. Spaying and full bonding once everyone is castrated should solve the problem (or at least greatly improve it). Babies and teenagers can be difficult/impossible to litter train, I think you just got pretty lucky with your other bunnies. The puberty timing could be…[Read more]

I was about fungal culture as well. Also how long had your been off the antibiotics? If Ju was still on the antibacterial or only a short period of when they did the swab you may get weird results.

oooh one other tip, my most infamous digger, Bunston (the little brown one in my avatar) LOVED shredding phone books. If you can find one, they are awesome for destructo-buns.
I’ve heard of people mounting a piece of safe lumber (like untreated pine) to their baseboards or furniture, so the buns can chew that instead of the baseboard.

I would go with the vinyl for something permanent, I was just thinking of laying down a tarp or something like that if you had one on hand in the meantime.
I was able to order vinyl flooring online from Home Depot recently, and then did curbside pick up for free. I think most major hardware chains are doing similar things. It was pretty cheap, I…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Help! Bunny fur problem! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 6 months ago
What body part is that? And is the color from urine staining or her natural color?
I wouldn’t worry too much about trying to brush that area, as it looks like a very thin layer of fur, but my sense is that maybe her environment is not as clean as it should be, so her fur is getting wet and matted. Larger mats can be worked out by pulling on the…[Read more]

I journaled the issues with Pippen, the foster I cared for with similar issues. It might be informative to read: https://binkybunny.com/forums/topic/pippens-gi-stasis-cecal-dysbiosis-maybe-dysautonomiaaeaeae/
Pippen had very acute symptoms that caused him a lot of pain. Pinky doesn’t seem to be in as much distress, which is a very good thing.

Thank you Bam. His poops have been abnormal since I got him last year in August, always different shapes and sizes. A lot of the time they were wet, a little improvement now from wetness. I think because I’ve been giving him less lettuce since he was off of it for two weeks to try figuring out the issue. I also noticed one time there was mucus i…[Read more]

Aww thank you! He is my cuddle buns, I still cannot get over his cuteness XD.
He is 4 Lbs , and has maintained that for the last 6 years.
He has never been a big eater, and will only eat if he’s starving. Michelle (his mate , flemish giant) is a chow hound XD
He was a lot fuzzier when he was younger, during the summer time I would then trim…[Read more]

It’s great that you’re seeing improvement! Bunny poop can be abnormal for quite some time after a bout of stomach trouble, the importsnt thing is that there is improvement. It can be frustratingly slow though. When my bun was ill last year I took pictures of his poop every day. It helped me see that he actually did improve, little by little.

Hi everyone,
I currently have one lonely bunny. I’ve had her for about 3 years now and she’s estimated to be 6-8 years old.
I got her from a rescue. At her previous home she had been living alone but had escaped and got pregnant and came into the rescue with her newborn babies. Apart from them I don’t think she has ever lived happily with…[Read more]
