• George gets his compounded and flavored, he gets .15 ml twice a day he is pretty small. He like bubblegum so it is flavored bubble gum. Snickerdoodle gets a similar dosage to Teddy. He just hates any medicine. If you can find a good flavor it might go easier.

  • So George had a Gastric Ulcer, I left him with the emergency vet until he recovered. I am surprised there is no antibiotics prescribed. George was put on Pen-G injections and oral metronidazole, also for pain he was put on gabapentin. The Pen-G is really tough on rabbits. It George several weeks to recover. You can do transfusions with another…[Read more]

  • Yes George is on nebs twice a day for life. As to why do we think it is allergies. He has sneezed white goop while being on cipro, we have cultured it and there is no bacteria growth indicating it more than likely irritation. Ollie sound like George, as soon as we take him off right back to an infection. Rabbits with short noses.

  • George has pretty bad allergies especially when shedding/change in seasons. Other than the suggestions above changing hay, using first cut timothy, oat hay, orchard grass. Using a air purifier helps. As for medicine George is currently on Zyrtec, and my vet also but him on mucinex.

I am glad he is doing better. Fur will do that, my lionhead needs to get a hair trims every couple of months to prevent stasis. My lop George goes through really bad sheds too. Maybe ask you vet about laxatone (some vets like it others do not all the vets around me recommend it), or a motility drug when he shedding . The later work for…[Read more]

It is good he is pooping and drinking and eating some on his own. If he is eating on his own a little you can try some alfalfa. If not and you do not have critical care you can try force feeding canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) but pure 100% pumpkin no spices. You should be able to get it at a grocery store You can probably get a feeding…[Read more]

  • Did you have any blood work done? I had one rabbit that had a gastric ulcer which was causing his stasis. Blood work would indicate anemia Is he shedding? My rabbits will go into stasis due to the gut slow down from ingesting fur. I hope Theo feels better, Gracie is having similar issues. My vet thinks it might be something to do with the…[Read more]

  • ergodic replied to the topic Hiccups in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 8 months ago

If it is frequent you might want to the vet. Hiccups were a sign of George’s stomach ulcer, he used to get them very frequently but now he is on a proton pump inhibitor.

  • He had been on antibiotics 3 times, the first two times after stopping it came back in a month the third time we switched to Zeniquin which cleared it up. The previous two times was Baytril and sulfa.p. These were all oral Yes last winter he relapsed and we started nebulizing him. It took many months before we found a nice steady state with him…[Read more]

  • Yes and Yes, George had mix of pseudomonas and staph. pseudonomas is really tough nut to crack. Luckily for George it clear up on his third round of oral antibiotics. However Staph and White snot is still a problem for George. I nebulize him twice a day with cipro and acetylcysteine (Mucomyst) it is more preventive since as soon as I take him off…[Read more]

  • I would recommend just doing both the x-ray and the C&S at the same time. Simply because my vet generally likes to get a deep culture and so she sedates the rabbit and while they are sedated they can get the x-rays. George is my trouble rabbit, a couple weeks ago he sneezed up a big blob of white snot even though he is being nebulized with…[Read more]

  • ergodic replied to the topic Hay Options in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 10 months ago

My rabbits really like KMS 3rd cut hay. I believe they ship to Canada. There shipping is very expensive but it evens out with the hay prices.

  • He is back home, I put him in a little crate with a litter pan that literally take up the entire crate. But some cardboard around the wall which he like chewing. He is in the room where I sleep and work. Luckily I work at home so I can watch him almost 24 7. He has been eating some hay, he really like the stalker stuff when not feeling well.…[Read more]

  • So the surgery went okay, the one piece was very small, but they were able to reattach the tendons. They were not able to pin the pieces but the got them together.

  • Thank you for the well wishes, if everything goes well he should be able to come home Sunday. I well known better tomorrow and I will be sure to update everyone.

  • Thanks that is helpful, Yes I know is especially with rabbits things can happen in a instant. He already uses a dog crate, So I will just be using that. was looking at thing to use as a litter pan since he cannot move. I found a couple of ideas. I will probably move it to a place easier to be around him 24-7. Thank you.

  • Hi Azerane, I just wanted to let others know his situation, his current care and why I was doing what I was doing. Sorry it is a bad habit I picked up from my job dealing with attorneys, make the record clear. So I meant no offense. I actually never thought of the pellets and I am glad that people mentioned it. It is definitely the next thing we…[Read more]

  • Actually my vet recommends 5-7lb 1/2 cup, I just checked her guidlines for rabbits on her, also when I was at SEAVS (Stahls) I specifically asked is he overweight and how much pellets. The answer were no he is just big and 1/2 cup. Both vets are very reputable. But you might be on to something maybe it is too much for him, It might be an idea…[Read more]

  • He is 7.9 lbs 3.6 kg. Yes I split his pellets into two different feedings one in the morning and one at night. I give him 1 cup and 1/2 veggies only at night. I have been using science selective. The vet was looking again at his x-ray she said they a little unclear since he was breathing rapidly but she wanted to observe him for the weekend…[Read more]
