I have noticed that some brands of pee pads don’t seem to do anything for odor and some almost seem to smell worse than no pee pad at all. Since they are designed for dogs, they tend to have a certain stinky smell to them which triggers dogs to mark them.
I wonder if you could experiment with the washable fabric pee-pads, or simply a layer of…[Read more]

Thanks, sure.
There’s a large litter box in front of a big hay box, she spends a fair amount of time chilling there each day, eating timothy hay. She has access to a chew log a few times per week. The vet has checked her teeth, but possibly not recently, I wasn’t in the room for a couple visits. But I would think she would. I’m going to start…[Read more]

Can you describe her day to day, including her diet? Does she have a large hay appetite? Excessive water drinking can be a consequence of dental discomfort.

I don’t think it’s unusual for senior rabbits to start peeing in seemingly random places. I know you said he doesn’t seem to be slowing down, but I would suggest having him checked by a vet. It could be arthritis or a urinary problem. If arthritis is the problem, you might try cutting a side out of the litter box so it’s easier for him to get in and out.

It sounds like a classic case of post-neuter craze. I would give him a few weeks before growing concerned about the behavior. As for the skittishness, that is probably hormones too. The hormone fluctuations can heighten senses and the littlest things can spook them.

Poop eating (the regular kind of poop) happens more often than people think it does. I agree with Bam, I wouldn’t be overly concerned. He may grow out of it too.

I’m not familiar with these clear grids. What are they normally used for?

LBJ10 replied to the topic New effective watering system? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 5 months ago
One thing to try might be a smaller bowl. If you have to provide 2, that’s OK. Having a smaller bowl, preferably one that mounts off the floor, can prevent extra bunny parts from making it into the water.
You can always try a water bottle to see if she still drinks enough (assuming she takes to it, of course).

What kind of pads are you using? I wonder if, since it’s under a grate, you could use the kind with activated charcoal in them. I agree that vinegar can just make things smell worse. It doesn’t mix well with urine smell.
Some other thoughts – Have you had her checked for a UTI? Symptoms can manifest in different ways, so it might not be a bad…[Read more]

I’ve read all the articles I could find on google, and I’ve taken my rabbit to the vet where she tested her urine and did some sort of blood test. I still don’t know what’s wrong with her, but here is what I know (it’s hard to just have a convo with vet every time I learn something, so some of this would be new to her too):
- My buns drinks a…

He does eat his hay, I just bought him a nice bag from a local farm and he really loves it. I keep stashes around the house for him to encourage him to eat it more.
Thank you for the reply! I appreciate all the advice I can get 😀

It is great that she is eating and is active!
A loud tummy means the intestines are moving, which is very good. She likely has some gas. You can give her 1 ml simethicone baby gas drops once per hour for 3 hours, to help will that. (Simethicone is not absorbed into the body, it stays in the GI canal until it gets pooped out. It doesnt interact…[Read more]

Hi everyone! I have a bunny named Lilly who recently had some bladder stones/sludge, and for the last few days since we brought her back from the vet after getting her treated she hasn’t quite been pooping. It’s the second day she’s back home, and so far she’s been peeing and running around everywhere, even eating some dandelions and a bit of…[Read more]

Hi! I actually have a bunny, a 9 yr old named Brody, who’s had the exact same situation for almost a year now. Our local vet gave the eye drops, which helped for around a day, but even to this day he still releases cloudy liquid from his eyes. Honestly, and this just based on Brody it may differ for your bunny, as long as they continue to eat,…[Read more]

mods – would it be at all possible to modify or delete this thread? I hoped to edit it, but can’t find the option any longer.
On a side note – after posting this I thought, and realized maybe the odor issue could be because i’m using too much vinegar actually (using it every time i change her pan). i just changed her pan again and just used…[Read more]

Sorry for double posting, but I have a new question.
He started Baytril on 3/15. He got one dose that day due to timing. So by now he’s had 9 doses with another coming in 2 hours.
Prior to his vet visit, he took to randomly thumping every now and then while in his cage. This was totally new to him so I’m assuming it was due to the pain. Then…[Read more]

It’s not really known why some rabbits eat their own round poop. I’ve seen it in my bun when he was coming out of a bout of stasis. There is the theory that the bun needs the fiber thats in the round poop, or the good bacteria the round poop contains. (Some vets suggest feeding a poorly rabbit poop from a healthy rabbit, to help reestablish a…[Read more]
