Weird stretching could mean gas even if its in a way you’ve never seen before. You could give some simethicone baby gas drops -if they help, they help, but wont do any harm.  Is she molting at the moment?

Dental problems can cause weight loss, so its of course wise to have the vet look at the teeth.

Both my Bam and Vildevhad full blood panels…[Read more]

Thank you, yes I definitely want blood work. I think you’re right about treating for EC as a precaution too, if it is that and we don’t treat it’s only going to damage her kidneys more. As far as I can tell she’s not lethargic, at least not any more than Apollo, I think they’re both just less active than they used to be due to their age.

    However…[Read more]

You can add insect screening to the outside of the hutch (this is a good precaution for RHD too, even with the vaccine). You can also talk to your vet about a product called Vectra 3d. It has off-label usage in rabbits but my vet has used it on rabbits for years and keeps mosquitos away. It should be used under direction of a vet though, and never…[Read more]

Bun Jovi is certainly still a wild man! Maybe not as many binkies and he’s less interested in climbing these days, but he still runs around a lot! And he definitely loves his naps and snuggles.

I think you meant to say sunflower seeds, not sesame. 🙂

Ohhh thank you both so much!!  🙂 🙂   I remember thinking the same about Vilde — how much they look alike — and I remember loving to hear about how Bun Jovi is a wild man even at 12.  🙂 🙂

This is so helpful!  Teddy hates Critical Care, unfortunately, but it’s great to know that Vilde does well on rolled oats, and I’ll experiment with sesa…[Read more]

Got it. I was already avoiding going with MDF and aiming for untreated kiln-dried pine for the beams and such. She cant exactly chew the plywood since corners and edges shouldn’t be available to her, however the walls are made out of it so she could probably somehow chew it if she really wanted to. I am not exactly sure of any practical way to…[Read more]

It’s so lovely to hear about Teddy!

My Vilde (who rather is Teddy’s doppelganger!) gets 1-2 table spoons of rolled oats per day. He rarely finishes them, but its there if he wants it. He is a hard keeper, but rolled oats help and havent messed with his tummy so far. You can also give a tiny amount of sunflower seeds, preferably the black and…[Read more]

Ok I will definitely keep the temperature change in mind. I will be letting her out into a large fenced off area of the yard for a few hours a day so she can run around supervised. I have spent the last week picking all of the weeds out of the yard and checking for what she can eat and what she shouldn’t.

I’m glad to hear you are getting her vaccinated, RDH is def in S CA and is spreading rapidly this time of year. Thankfully it seems like there are a lot of vets in LA and SD that have the vaccine.

In S CA we also have to worry about Myxomatosis, and unfortunately we can’t get the vaccine for that, so it’s important to provide protection from…[Read more]

Awww Teddy <3  He and Bun Jovi can be grandpas together.

As for the oats, I’m not sure about the amount exactly, but I know oat groats are given pretty regularly. At the shelter when a bun comes in very underweight we usually add about a teaspoon to their pellet ration. So maybe start with a 1/2 teaspoon and see how he does?  Does he like c…[Read more]

    That is great news!

He is prob peeing everywhere because he might still be in some pain, but I imagine he feels SO much better with that bad tooth out. I would just give him some time to recover and I’m guessing things will slowly return. You can restrict his space a little if you need to.

    Hi Azerane,

I think blood work is a good first step. And maybe even treating for EC so you can rule it out, since the tests are so unreliable? Is she showing any lethargy or other signs of pain?

Do you think she would eat critical care cookies? I’ve seen some recipes for them where you bake the CC at a low temp to make little biscuits. I also…[Read more]

I don’t really know to be honest. My parents pick them up at the nearest hardware store (since I can’t drive); I pestered my mom to call them (since I have a lot of anxiety, especially talking on the phone) to find out what was in them. Well she picked them up and asked an employee what kind of quality they were and the employee said that “it’s…[Read more]

She weighs 10.1 pounds I believe. All the research I did said adult rabbits needed 1/4 cups of pellets, now I feel horrible. Thank you for the help!
