Awwww, I hope he likes it. 🙂 Both of the bunnies in my avatar have actually passed away, they were bonded for about 6 years if I remember correctly. The little brown one was named Bunston, and the white and tan one was Bertha, she was about 3 times Bunston’s size. 🙂 Poor Bertha was actually widowed twice. The first time with Bunston, then I e…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Early transition from alfalfa to grass hay?? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 4 months ago
Alfalfa can be fuzzy on the undersides of the leaves, so I wouldn’t be worried about that necessarily. The smell is more concerning for sure. I agree that it will probably be fine to just stop feeding since he’s already eating at least some grass hay.

Thank you so much! I ordered him a puppet so we’ll see how he likes it. For now, I found him an old teddy bear he can use. I just noticed your profile pic – your buns look just like mine! George, the one I lost, was exactly like your brown one, and Cinnabun looks like the tan/white one.

Is the area hard? It looks more like a hernia than an abscess. But a hernia would be soft to the touch. Abscesses are firm because the puss is so thick.

prince dorian the bun replied to the topic Animal experiments in the forum THE LOUNGE 5 years, 4 months ago
One recent good thing is for cosmetics testing, it used to be that China insisted on animal testing for any product marketed there, but recently there have been some changes where this is no longer 100% the case. As China is a huge market this means lots of international cosmetic companies that wanted that market would have to do animal testing…[Read more]

Ugh that is so rude, I think in their heads they mean well, but as your note says asks! I used to work a bit with some blind students for part of my senior project, and some of the stories they told were equally baffling. Especially with the guide dog interactions. I mean I get wanting to pet a cute dog and in some cases it’s fine, but you really…[Read more]

It doesn’t need to look like him. 🙂 Bunnies don’t really know what they look like. It doesn’t actually even need to look like a rabbit necessarily, I’ve seen bunnies cuddling with stuffies of elephants, hedgehogs, teddies, etc. I think the size and overall shape is more important.

Vet thinks to think it is molting, he did suggest pineapple and papaya around that time to help break down any fluff in the digestive tract. Also he has a prescription in his records if I ever need it. Didn’t know about pineapple so may try that out since Dorian thinks papaya is yucky (such a picky bun). This vet in the anti-pellet and no treats…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic baking soda in paper pellet bedding in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 4 months ago
Aww that’s too bad. I second the recommendation for pine wood pellets though. They work really well and are safe because they have been heat treated. You can find them sold as horse stall pellets, wood stove pellets, or feline pine (but as feline pine they are 4 times the price). A 40 lb bag of horse stall pellets should be around $8-10 at feed shops.

Thank you all for the advice!!! unfortunately, my bun thinks that the paper pellets were food and tried to eat it 🙁 even if baking soda is okay, I think I want to be safe and just stick to another type of bedding…thank you all again though:D

no she has not. My vet was busy with surgey so another exotic vet took a look. My usual vet still wanted to see him so that is why we are going back tomorrow. I will print out the protocol and bring it with me and hopefully we can figure something out.
Can a abscess be treated with just antibiotics? Or does it need to be cleaned first?

he actually got a single prescortal incision. But even that incisions is actually much lower down. The swelling is located around the abdomen which is why I was so confused as to why it even developed in the first place. I was told his incision site is healing very well. the only think I could think of is when he came home he may have poked…[Read more]

i might be seeing something wrong on the picture, but is the swelling on the abdomen? In neuters there are usually two small incisions, one on each testes. The location of the swelling (unless I’m looking at this totally wrong) looks more like where a spay incision would be… so I’m just a bit confused.
I’m glad you will be seeing the vet…[Read more]

It is a bit difficult to see.
I agree with Dana though, abscesses in rabbits as a rule need to be treated surgically. I think I found the protocol you are referring to, where they describe opening up the abscess and treating it with hydrogen peroxide to make the pus less thick and thus easier to clean out.
Has your vet deemed this abscess…[Read more]
