buddybun replied to the topic Healthy bunny or not? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago

It could be a dental program, despite the fact that it’s only on one side. Your bunny might have tooth spurs, especially if he has any lop, netherland dwarf, or another small rabbit breed in him. Tooth spurs can be painful so I would at least have his vet check his teeth. Definitely get his teeth checked out, and if that’s not the problem, maybe…[Read more]

Hi! I recently got a Blue Satin rabbit, and she’s been starting to get shocked when we pet her or rub on her body. She’s making a lot of static electricity and I was wondering if anyone else has found a way to prevent this. It would be greatly appreciated for any tips! I feel so bad when she gets shocked; you can tell she hate’s it and jumps away.…[Read more]

Haha, this is too precious! I’d be making crazy headbinkies too if I were him. He’s such a pretty bun ^_^

Of course he’s not planning to come out of it again. If rabbits could sing I’d bet he’d be singing: *This must be just like living in paaaaaradise! And I don’t want to go hoohooome!*

I’m trying to get an appointment for the only other exotic vet near me but currently they’re always unavailable when I call. So here’s the deal.

2 weeks ago my rabbit stopped eating hay. Rarely she attempts to eat a piece of hay but it’s obvious she struggles with it. Sometimes she makes a wet noise while chewing like she just can’t grind it down…[Read more]

@ALRyder – I think that is generally normal bunny behavior! Well a lot of buns do seem to get regular pellets, but the other stuff. Dorian a little bit spoiled about his food, he won’t eat anything that he doesn’t find pristine and goes through phases of foods he likes, he also gets greens pretty much whenever he asks or can self serve in his…[Read more]

Yes. I have for years with both my indoor and outdoor plants. They thrive more than I’ve ever had plants thrive before.

Thank you! I started this morning. He eats plenty of hay so I’m not super worried about him refusing the pellets. He did pick at a few of the new one’s when he didn’t have a choice but those left.

Agree with what’s been said so far. 🙂

Can you describe their housing set-ups a bit more? That will give me a better picture of how to encourage more exploring, and also suggest some ways to reduce cage aggression. In general it’s best to do all cleaning when the bunny is not in the cage, especially if the cage is actually a cage (vs. a large…[Read more]

Agree with everything Wick said. It’s unfortunate that you’re having such a hard time finding a vet. The fact that they aren’t comfortable doing a spay would be a red flag, as Wick pointed out.

You should definitely get both rabbits fixed before bonding, even if it means taking a road trip. If Doodles turns out to be a girl it will be twice as…[Read more]

@wick I was given 20 guage which works quite well actually, but the needle is so thick and he flinches when I stick it in! I was wondering maybe a 21 or even 22 guage might work for penicillin? What you wrote was very helpful, I will give it a try today

Yes, I’d try to find some without borate. Borate is used as a disinfectant but you really dont need that for flushing a rabbit’s eye.

Do you have syringes and Critical care to syringe feed her? If not, have your vet give you some and syringe feed her. It’s good she is drinking but she should eat something soon. Keep offering her some favorite greens and don’t worry about the collar for now.

With pain meds, most rabbits do not need to wear a collar, but if she starts messing…[Read more]

If she’s not fed pellets ad lib, you could save some of her daily ration and use as treats. You could otherwise buy a small bag of another healthy bun pellet and use those as occasional treats. My buns have all considered normal bun pellets treats. (You can put some of the daily pellets in a treat bowl for example, so she can work a bit for her…[Read more]

Here’s the product info. To me this looks like it’s for contact lenses, I think you would want to find one that’s meant to be used directly in the eye. Try looking for saline eye rinse.

I compost the litter outside, in compost bins (warm compost), together with mown grass and leaves, but for my indoors plants, I collect stray poopies and also pick out some from the boxes.

I’ve never worried too much about dosage, I put in perhaps 10-15 per smallish seedling pot. My plants thrive to the point of me soon not having enough window…[Read more]

That’s what I thought, thank you 😊 The breeder said she is used to having 2oz of pellets a day, but i’ve read a lot that it should be unlimited until about 7 months! Lots of contradicting information 🥴 Thanks again, I appreciate any advice 😊

I nit allowed to view that link, because Im outside of the US.

But any saline 0.9% (NaCl) is ok for buns. I use a type that comes in single dose plastic pipettes, because its practical to always have at home (opened containers obviously have shorter shelf life).  The pipettes are 2 ml each and contain NaCl 0.9% and water. It’s for eyes and…[Read more]
