I noticed there’s a thin little hair in Timothy’s eye and I’m not sure what to do? He stayed pretty still while I tried to get a closer look and took a pic but I wasn’t able to get it out. That was about half an hour ago when I was in class. I checked again just now, I think it’s pushed back in his eye or something, I can’t tell as he keeps moving to eat his hay and I feel so bad. How can I help him? My parents just left with the car and won’t be back til 5 and the vet is 30mins away and will be closed by then 😞 Someone told me to try flushing it out with saline. I’m scared I’m going to make it worse, are saline drops for babies safe for rabbits?

Saline drops for babies are fine for buns! Try rinsing and wiping with a clean tissue along the  lower eyelid, (not on the eyeball itself, the wiping is just to help clearing the eye), lightly, towards the inner corner of the eye.

Rinsing will not hurt anything but he might get a bit miffed at first, but nothing a treat wont fix!

I not allowed to view that link, because I’m outside of the US.

But any saline 0.9% (NaCl) is ok for buns. I use a type that comes in single dose plastic pipettes, because its practical to always have at home (opened containers obviously have shorter shelf life).  The pipettes are 2 ml each and contain NaCl 0.9% and water. It’s for eyes and contact lenses. I find one pipette goes a long way,  but you can use as much as you need, it’s not like you could overdose it.

Here’s the product info. To me this looks like it’s for contact lenses, I think you would want to find one that’s meant to be used directly in the eye. Try looking for saline eye rinse.

Yes, I’d try to find some without borate. Borate is used as a disinfectant but you really dont need that for flushing a rabbit’s eye.

Yes, I would try a simple saline solution to flush it out.
