DanaNM replied to the topic Rabbit Stomach Gas/Pain Happening Same Time Everyday in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 3 months ago
Do these episodes happen a certain number of house after eating?
Some bunnies don’t do well with pellets or certain veggies, so if she is a good hay eater and your vet recommends it, you might try going hay-only for a while and see if that helps.
I also wouldn’t rule out teeth. Lionheads are one of the breeds that’s seeing more and more dental…[Read more]

Bun Jovi has been having slight balance issues too when cleaning his ears with his back foot, but thankfully he usually has Myra to lean up against. I know some people will add some bolsters around for the bun to lean on for extra balance, like either rolled up towels or beds with higher sides.
I agree about things just not tasting as good to…[Read more]

Hi again! Thank you to each of you for the well-wishes. I wanted to update to say that Lucy’s spay surgery went well and she is at home with us recovering! She has yet to eat much but the vet says as long as she is getting something in her system by later today, she’ll be just fine. I did see her nibble on some oat hay, and was able to get her to…[Read more]

I just brought Luna home from the vet after she was there today for her ultrasound. Things get more interesting every time we do another test, lol. The vet is still waiting for the full write-up from the ultrasonographer and also needs to do some more reading about progression and treatments etc so I’ll hear from her again early next week.
The…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic How do I prepare Frisee lettuce ? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 3 months ago
Oh yes, sorry, a head of lettuce is the leaves that are attached to the stem.
Buns are as a rule naturally suspicious of new food. It can take several tries before they decide to have a taste of a new veg, but once they do, they will as a rule decide it’s yummy.
In order to waste as little lettuce as possible, its wise to only serve small bits…[Read more]

LBJ, that resonates, thanks.
DanaNM, I see your point. It does seem like an appetite issue — today I woke up a few hours later than usual so he hadn’t gotten oats for a while, and he still hadn’t eaten much of his normal food. He can get to most of it over the course of 24 hours, but he doesn’t seem as into it and that did predate the o…[Read more]

He’s pretty laid back with other bunnies. I think it wouldn’t have taken long for him and Joey to bond. He’s more of a do whatever you want as long as I get treats kind of bun.

Thank you for the reply and for the article. This bunny is a blue and I thought the same as I know of genetics and before I noticed this issue as it’s coat came in I hoped it wouldn’t have issues. Seems my fears have become a reality. As a side note it’s a lop eared. I’m just waiting until the appointment rolls around and pray I get the answe…[Read more]

Congenital deafness is not well understood in rabbits. It could be tied to certain color/pattern genes, but there haven’t been enough studies on it. They know a lot more about the relationship between color/pattern and deafness in cats and dogs. This is an interesting article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4672198/
It mentions the…[Read more]

One improvement maybe? His ears seem to be warming up. He is definitely having pain and I have maxed out his pain medicine.

I’m not sure that the bunny vet is available on Fridays but I’ll give them a call. But yeah I can imagine it’s easier as the injectable is 1% and the paste is 1.87 if I remember correctly. Just not sure why they would give me an injectable to give orally rather than just… use it as an injection the way it’s supposed to be.
Either way I hope it…[Read more] - Load More
