Yes, I would just stick with whatever works. If you find something she will eat, then keep getting it. You can always reduce the amount once she has gained enough weight. The reduced amount would then just be for maintenance.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Rabbit has fluid around lungs, looking for treatment options in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 1 year, 11 months ago

Did the vet say what kind of tumor this is? Is it a thymoma? Or does she have cancer elsewhere (reproductive) and it metastasized to her lungs? It isn’t unheard of for fluid to build in the pleural cavity.

We are not vets, but we can share experiences with you that happened with our own bunnies. We need additional information though. There are…[Read more]

Actually, I did hesitate to post if I should try something like Kaytee LOL!

So I did ask the vet if she takes to young pellets, if I should remove them after she gains weight and the vet said no. It’s better to not have a rollercoaster weight so I get it. So then would I stick to Kaytee if it works? Perhaps try and see first before worrying.

    She…[Read more]

Poor girl has been moving very jerkily with every breath, took her to the vet where they did an x-ray. Told me fluid around one of the lungs is making it hard to breath. She seems normal otherwise. Vet thinks likely tumor related. But I think I need an expert to tell me what all we can do.

She gave me a medicine that is given to cats and dogs as…[Read more]

I hate to say this… but have you tried “cheap” brands? Not the ones that have the junk in them. But Kaytee, for example, has plain pellets. If the intention is to fatter her up a bit, then I don’t think they brand of pellet is going to matter so much.

I posted elsewhere about one of my buns losing weight. Right now, the assumption is this is because she needs more nutrients as she is a hay only eater and she is molting.

So, I’m looking for help finding her more nutrients. She won’t really eat vegetables; once in a blue moon, she may nibble the tiniest amount but then she gives up. I even try…[Read more]

So I think they *might* be officially bonded now 🙂 I don’t want to jinx it! I’ll probably give it another 24-48 hours or so before I call it. Haven’t seen a nip in 2 days/48 hrs now I believe. Still not hanging out too much but improving!

I think it worked! I tried in the closet last week but maybe not hard enough because he would still nip after so I stopped trying:( I wish I did this sooner. Comforting Snoopy seemed to be the answer vs trying to get her to stop mounting. I was able to get to them multiple times and seems like it’s getting out of her system because the last time…[Read more]

Yes I’ve decided to change vets I found a referral from a local rabbit rescue 🙂

I’ll have to try that, Appa is a fighter and does not tolerate being held at all :/ I cut hit nails by putting a towel down on the kitchen table and going one foot/hand at a time when he’ll tolerate me lifting one of his paws which can take up to half an hour to…[Read more]

Agree, I would say 3 weeks is the minimum standard amount of time to wait post-neuter, 4 weeks would be safest.

Since there was an injury, I’d actually separate them completely (out of sight and smell) while you wait for their neuter and they recover. That way they can forget each other a bit, as rabbits can hold grudges. They will smell very…[Read more]

That’s awful you had that experience at the vet. Is it possible for you to find another vet that may have more experience with exotics? I’ve found when an office has more than 1 exotics vet, their technicians are all very good with rabbits because they see them regularly.

Do you have someone to help you at home?

This isn’t scent gland specific,…[Read more]

He definitely has some in there as I got some out, I’m concerned I need to clean it all out or perhaps checking next week if he’s able to get the rest himself. I sit on the couch and hold under his arms with his body against me and his bum scooted a little forward resting on my lap so he’s in a banana shape and I can see his rectal region. I get…[Read more]

Thank you, the really bad fight where one was injured was a week or so ago, neutering booked in for next week so will follow the guidance and advice you have provided and I have read. Just FYI, they’re approaching around 6/7 months old.
I have also read, it is not uncommon for them to bond whilst both recovering but surely that is not correct or…[Read more]

Male-male bonds are not necessarily difficult. My boys absolutely adored each other. Anecdotally, people say the hardest bond is girl-girl. That being said, the boys need to be neutered first before trying to bond them. The fighting you are witnessing is caused by hormones. I don’t know how old they are now, but I’m guessing they are teenagers.…[Read more]

If there’s signs of hiding, pressing her stomach on the floor, not making urine/poop then she might be sick. If she’s not sick, it sounds like she’s depressed. Rabbits do best with a bonded partner since they naturally live in societies with the comfort of other rabbits that offers a huge sense of security and companionship. I got my bun during…[Read more]

Are his scent glands really that bad? Most bunnies don’t need to have them cleaned very often.

What method are you using for holding/restraining him? Have you tried doing a burrito?

I have only used vet wrap for sore hocks, lined with a lot of bunny fur. I had to make sure that the fur lining didnt extend above the wrsp, or my bun would pull at the fur lining and get all of it out ☹ But as long as I kept the fur lining to just below the top of the bandage he didnt mess with the wraps.

Velcro can be rather hard. I dont know…[Read more]
