The only time I have seen a bunny crawl backwards is when they crawl into a tight space and realize there’s nowhere to go, so they crawl backwards to get out.

Yes, I was under the impression that this was just for an outdoor play area. And, if that is your intention, then I’m not sure what you would need a hutch for. The play run should be sufficient as long as they are sheltered and you’re not leaving them out there unsupervised.

On my second free exercise time with the boys today and they are acting like a bonded pair again. They are grooming and laying together which makes me so happy. This makes me feel much better about them having to be separate when I’m not supervising because they are having the grooming and snuggles still. I’m just here to make sure they don…[Read more]

Well after 3 solid attempts at bondibg my boy and moving them in together they got into another hair pulling chasing fight. I’m heartbroken because they were snuggling all the time and grooming g each other all the time and the. Out of no where this happens. From advice I have been given I am keeping them separate in side by side pens. The pens a…[Read more]

Thanks!! I’ve now even been able to put them in the basement with the other 2 (it’s a large basement and set up very nicely for them with 2 large areas) without issue. Of course I liked them up with me, but my lease has them supposed to be in the basement, and they were chewing on door frames and wood upstairs so I feel better with them…[Read more]

We really encourage indoor housing because it tends to be much safer for the rabbits for a variety of reasons (this is a house-rabbit forum so most of us keep our bunnies primarily indoors). In addition to predators, there are several dangerous diseases that spread through vectors and wild rabbits (RHDV2 is particularly dangerous). Outdoor hutches…[Read more]

I’m not quite sure how you mean. But:
1. Rabbits can stretch their back by pressing their lower belly afainst the floor. They often yawn at the same time. If this occurs after the bun has been resting and the bun otherwise has a good energy level, good appetite and normal poop, it’s just stretching and nothing to worry about.
2. Rabbits that…[Read more]

They’re keeping her again today as she is still not willing to eat by herself.
She is still being force fed and they’ve been doing sub-q fluids as they’ve been unable to place a catheter apparently. Her usual vet is in tomorrow and I just really hope she starts to improve and feel better soon. Of course today would be another bank holiday. Don’t…[Read more]

Can bunnies eat cantaloupe? My research told me mixed things, I know not to give them the seeds but I’m not sure about the rest. I read that it’s a good summer treat by some but others said that it’s probably best not to give it to them. If they can have it what parts can they eat? (Could you show me with a picture for what they can eat please?)

Yes I pretty much live in the woods. We don’t have rattlesnakes, bull snakes, or anything like that. We have copperheads and that’s it. We have king snakes and that’s about as big as they get. Corn snakes, black snakes, and garden snakes, is pretty much all we get. I would make the wire pretty much small that way nothing could get in for sure.…[Read more]

Do you live in a rural area? Honestly, it would depend on the snake. A large snake like a rattlesnake or bullsnake can kill and eat a small adult rabbit. If snakes are a concern, then you would need 1/4″ wire mesh and nowhere for them to squeeze underneath.

Hi everyone.
I am the first time owner of a rabbit
All my experiences have been with cats and dogs.
I am completely astounded at the mental and emotional intelligence of rabbits.
I am enthralled by the sweet , quirky, expressive personality of Peaty.
He is a 2 year old neutered male.
I think a Mini rex X Netherland Dwarf.

This will be outside. If it is not predator proof fully I’ll sit and supervise while they play. If I find that nothing can break through I might consider letting them out unsupervised. Also I live in East Tennessee. Would snakes be a problem to adult rabbits?

DanaNM replied to the topic Rabbit running cage in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years ago
Are you planning this for outdoors or indoors? If outdoors, are you going to supervise or will they be allowed in it unsupervised?
I agree that welded wire is the safest bet for outdoor enclosures in general. If the plan is for them to be in the area unsupervised it must be very very secure against predators.
