Bam replied to the topic what type of hay is this? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 2 months ago
My guess would be legume hay (alfalfa, lucerne). It’s obviously not grass hay.
Does all the hay in the bag seem to be the same type? Horses are often fed a mix of alfalfa and grass hay. Alfalfa is high in protein and calcium. It’s too high in calcium to be good for adult buns, but it’s great for babies up till 7 months of age.

I’m very sorry for your loss.
Don’t blame yourself. The infection around his tooth could have been festering for some time, rabbits hide pain until they nolonger can. (Which is why it’s so important to do check ups).
You did everything right. You had to try and treat the inflamed tooth. An inflamed tooth that needs antibiotics is not a minor…[Read more]

Lol, @SweetPotato – I can see it too! I’m sure it’s on the top left of the sink, but you can just see the lil’ bun’s ears. That’s cute ♥

Thank you!
That’s what I was thinking… Split the room into 3: two quarters sectioned off by pens and the other half left open for free. And I will switch them every day again/every time they go out for exercise or for bonding dates.

It sounds like she is prone to gas, which some bunnies just are. It would be difficult with 3 bunnies living together, but you could try eliminating everything except hay and then slowly reintroducing things to see what her triggers are.

OK, thanks for the additional info. They may or may not be able to do a needle biopsy. I guess it would depend on the consistency of the mass. Your description does suggest a cancerous tumor. Lipomas can sometimes grow rapidly as well.
Yes, if the tumor grows very rapidly, it can grow faster than the skin can accommodate… leading to rupture.…[Read more]

When Smokey has a bout of bloat, typically it’s where she’s hunched in a corner and doing the standard pain positions. When that happens, her litter habits also fall out the window, too. Some smithicone and tummy massages clear up her bloats fairly quickly, though, and she’ll start eating normally again soon after. There have only been 2 times…[Read more]

Oh, I am so sorry!
Take a deep belly breath. Place your hand on your stomach, and feel it go out as you breath in, and in as you breath out.
You did everything anyone could have done for him, so please don’t blame yourself. You gave Edward a long and wonderful life, full of companionship and love – two of the best things there are. 🙂 You are…[Read more]

The vet and a rabbit savvy groomer ruled out abscess as it’s grown in a weird shape uncommon to abscesses (they said abscesses are usually rounder in texture but the growth he has is a firm odd shaped lump. As if it’s a cloud it has different protruding areas) and it has no wound / scab showing. They did take an XRAY to look at it but no biopsy was done..

The vet advised against it as the mass is attached to the shoulder and neck where the sensitive nerves and veins are, his old age, the possibility of not waking up from GA, and the possibility of the wound from surgery not healing properly if it is cancer. Will skin rupture from tumour? I have not heard that from the bunny community I’ve ta…[Read more]

Can you describe what you’re seeing as ‘bloat’?

Hi everyone,
So Smokey has been having some bouts of bloat lately. If I were to guess, I’d say that she’s had about 4-5 occasions where she’s been bloated in the past 7 months, some of which were major, and some minor.
I’ve had some theories as to what might be causing them, all listed below:
1: Since they are young (roughly 2 years old), I’ve…[Read more]

I think he has a wool block, he had his first hard poop in 24 hrs and it was full of hair and upon further inspection it was just a ball of hair covered in poop.
I have been making hay on my own from bermuda grass which my rabbit only nibbles at.
