Thank you both for the advice.
I tried the banana trick at the beginning of bonding when the stand-off first happened.
milo isn’t that interested in banana even when I feed him some- he can take it or leave it (although it is his favorite of all greens and fruits)

milo has groomed Louie several in the beginning. He would go over to him when he w…[Read more]

Hi all, me again. We have a vet appointment for towards the end of August.

    Maintenance and Housing
Is your bunny housed indoors or outdoors? Indoors.
Does your bunny live with other bunnies? One.
If yes, are they bonded? Yes.
If you rabbit spends time outside, are wild rabbits around? Never outside.
How much exercise does your bunny get per day…[Read more]

That’s so strange and interesting! But yes I did 3 rounds of treatment. He even got treatment soon after I first brought him home. So they seem to just be coming back. At their vet visit when they got their ears cleaned she ran her hands through their fur to check their skin and didn’t see anything, but I’ll check it myself in a bit and let you k…[Read more]

Having something like that up your sleeve is great! I’ve heard of clicker trained buns that are so conditioned to take a treat after the click that their owners have been able to get them to eat when in stasis using the clicker.

One other thought… have you tried the banana on the head trick? Perhaps to get Milo to groom Louie? Sometimes all you need is one interaction like that to break the ice.

Louie really does seem like he is just begging Milo for the teeniest groom!

The “poop shake” was some cecotropes (ideally) or regular poops mixed up in critical care and given to the poorly bun.  In general you would want to be careful with this because the poops from the other bun could contain pathogens, but my vet said if the buns are already living in the same house they would have already been exposed to the same…[Read more]

Rabbits as a rule get mites from their mothers. The rabbit’s immune system keeps the number of mites down, so they cant cause any trouble. Then if the bun experiences stress of some kind (it doesnt even have to be negative stress), the immune defense takes a (temporary) toll, and the mites seize the opportunity to multiply.

So is not about the…[Read more]

Hey everyone!  Thank you so much again for your help.  Teddy’s been going along about the same, eating like 1/3 his normal pellets (maybe 1/2 on a good day) plus hay, super excited about oats, not drinking much water on his own.  He had a brief bout of stasis maybe 10 days ago so he got CC for like 2 days, then started eating again, and we’re st…[Read more]

Ugh. So he doesn’t exhibit a general balance problem, only when grooming and reaching behind him like towards his back/above his butt. But after posting this and observing him more I’ve noticed he grooms himself a lot more often than my other two. I did treat them all for ear mites but maybe it didn’t get rid of them. Which is really irrit…[Read more]

Thank you so much. ☺️ I did as you said and it really worked. 😁

Thank Allah! We started to go back to normal with Cookie. When he is next to me he no longer hides and sleeps next to me, watches TV with me and likes when I caress him, he lie with me. We are slowly starting to get back to normal. 😁😁😁

I’ll mention that probiotic use in the rabbit community has neutral to positive reviews. Some vets do not mention probiotics because there is the belief (which I believe is scientifically validated?) that probiotics currently on the market don’t actually contain the same “stuff” that is naturally found in a rabbit’s GI, and therefore it does not…[Read more]

Thanks for the tag Dana– I’m happy to chime in with a “rabbits are complicated and confusing, yes!” sentiment, haha.

As stated in my previous reply, my Wick and Fable were co-habitating (i.e. shared free-roam space during the day) rabbits who were not bonded. There would be signs that, in a picture looks like they’re bonded (similar to what…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Rabbit going for other rabbits private in the forum BONDING 5 years, 1 month ago

Rabbit body language can be difficult to read and there may be things that we humans might not even be able to discern/perceive. The fact that she is “randomly (going) for his privates” is a sign that tension is there, regardless if it’s perceived or not– attacking another rabbit is not something that occurs when a rabbit is calm. Something is…[Read more]

It’s tricky because you want to keep the gut contents very hydrated to prevent stasis, especially in a megacolon bun, so it seems like the problem is more one with absorption and cecal dysfunction.

Exactly, it seems like the more liquid she gets, the more it dripps out, so we cut back on juicy things, because she drinks loads of water right n…[Read more]

    Thank you again.
We are cautiously proceeding with them being together still but I have to start leaving them at some point! We are watching them 24/7 at the moment. The incident happened after I left them for an hour. It wasn’t really anything but it wasn’t how I think bonded bunnies should act. Milo came out and Louie jumped off the sofa and Mil…[Read more]

They are not tense during bonding sessions. They are calm. Cinnimon my female grooms Ollie my male during the sessions, but she randomly goes for his privates.

I will say given he has had some stasis problems it is sometimes a little worrying (luckily he will almost always eat hay hand feed to him), but mainly it’s just a mystery to me!  Other than hay he is such a little mood eater too, one week he loves something and the next won’t touch it.
