I should add that she’s doing really well otherwise. Great appetite, no weight loss, lots of energy. You’d never guess she’s as old as she is. I’m not sure if this is something I should be super concerned about.

I honestly have no idea. When she does it it’s only once or twice and then she’s good. I’ve brought it up with two different vets and neither seemed concerned but now it’s happening more frequently and I don’t have any idea what it could be, especially since she’s doing it while not even drinking now.

Hmm… could she be aspirating when she drinks?

My bunny Quincy, who I have had for almost 8 years and she is probably at least 9 or 10, has for the past year or two been making choking noises when she drinks water. Not every time I don’t think, but most times. It almost sounds like she’s coughing water back up or something. However, she’s started making these noises even when she’s not…[Read more]

As LBJ says, if you have metacam (meloxicam), you can give that. A lot of the symptoms that ec causes are believed to come from tissue inflammation. The ec parasites multiply inside the cells until they get so many that the cell bursts, and the body reacts with inflammation. This inflammatory response can be very powerful. NSAIDs like metacam…[Read more]

No, but a NSAID would at least help with any internal inflammation.

Sometimes the points are super small and hard to see. We’ve had buns on here before that this has happened to. I think the vet simply ran the burring tool over the teeth just to make sure they were smooth (since they couldn’t see the points). I’m sorry this has been so frustrating for you. Honestly though, I’m not sure what they would be looking…[Read more]

Yeah the mouth exam was done under anesthesia. The vet did it twice and found nothing. We did all the dental work done and now i’m debating if I should do a CT because I am not sure if i can afford it.

Yeah we already did the mouth examine twice under anesthesia and found nothing.

Cold laser treatment for wound healing should not affect hair growth. I had a dog that got 20 cold laser treatments for a back problem, her fur was not affected at all, even though her fur was very dark.
Red LED light can also be used for wound healing. That would not affect hair growth.
The hair not growing back could be due to impaired blood…[Read more]

I agree with LBJ. There can be stuff that doesn’t show up on skull x rays, the inside of the mouth needs to be examined with an otoscope. Since rabbits have a big tongue and a small oral cavity, the bun needs to be under full anesthesia for the vet to be able to see everything properly. I would start there before going for a CT.

We used the cold laser on her open wound after the stitches came out for a bit, and we’re wondering if that might be why she’s not growing any hair back on the bottom. It came back all around the leg. The wound isn’t open. I could post a pic but don’t want to scare anyone at the sight of it.

How well did the vet look in his mouth? Was a deep dental exam done under anesthesia? This really is the only way to see if there are tiny spurs or other issues with the teeth. Even then, it can be hard to tell. Sometimes the tiniest of points can cause problems. Your post does not mention having his molars burred or trimmed. Perhaps it would be…[Read more]

I’m very sorry to hear what your rabbit is going through. Whether it’s a CT or perhaps putting your rabbit under anesthesia just to do some more through exploratory work that is non-skeletal would both be likely next steps. If something was just lodged in the mouth, it wouldn’t really show up on an X-ray easily.
Personal fundraising is not…[Read more]

Hello everyone,
I am in a tough situation with my sweet bunny. He has constantly been drooling for 2 months and fecals look odd. I took him to the vet and we did fecal sample test, blood work, skull x rays and she also checked the inside of his mouth really well and we found nothing. He loves his hay and wants to eat but he just cant because he’s…[Read more]
