If they are still growing, then I think 1/4 cup is a reasonable amount. Snowball definitely has that meat rabbit look to her and your description of her “body type” definitely fits. I’m still leaning toward NZ with her. Florida White is a good guess too. You will want to keep an eye on her weight as she gets older. They were bred to put on weight easily.

Did they send pain meds home for Walter? I would imagine that he won’t be able to bounce back as quickly after his neuter since they did a more invasive neuter.
Oh wow… I guess I never thought about a dog being able to rupture an anal gland. That doesn’t sound good. 🙁

Big sigh of relief! All seems well.
He was not eating and an attempt at syringe feeding did NOT go well. He was very lethargic as well.
This morning, he was perked up and eating his greens. By the time I had gotten home from work, he had eaten pellets and finished the greens, and POOPED! Woo hoo!!
Working on some hay now.
On another not…[Read more]

Ah, gotcha!
I use these types of latches:

They often include similar ones when you buy an x-pen, and they have them at hardware stores ( I think they are called brass snaps).

Also if they are under around 7 months to a year old, they should have some source of alfalfa in their diet, usually it’s in young rabbit pellets.

Depending on their age, that might be on the high end for pellets (or is it 1/4 cup shared between them?). But if they are under a year then it’s an OK amount.
Honestly, I don’t really tailor my buns salad to their weights closely. I used to have an 11 lb bunny, and she certainly got extra! But my current buns all get somewhere between 1-2 cups…[Read more]

I can separate them at times during the day, it’s more so at night where I would be unable to keep my dog out of my room.
and I did see some cages with large doors that opened on the front that I was planning on copying, but not sure how the doors would lock while I’m not home. What do you use? Someone else suggested a spring latch.

Okay, thank you. My girl isn’t a chewer, I’m lucky, she doesn’t chew baseboards, soft carriers. or wires. I’ll definitely watch her first just incase. I hope she likes it though.

Have you tried a night light? I know it sounds weird, but some bunnies like having a low light (like it’s dusk) and it makes them feel safer.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Bunny wet poop – a cry for help, tried everything in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 10 months ago
Deafness does seem to mess with their equilibrium a little bit. But I wouldn’t think that would cause messy cecotropes. At least, that has not been my experience.
You said the vet looked for bacteria in the poop and did not see any “strange” bacteria. What about the possibility of a bacteria or yeast overgrowth? This would be cecal dysbiosis. And…[Read more]

Thank you,
And the white one is much fatter and her head is much bigger than the black and white one that’s why I wasn’t sure if it was their breeds? Right now the internet says to give them 1 cup per 2 lbs and I was wondering if the white one should get 2 cups because she is 4.5 pounds. At the moment I feed them both 1/4 cup of pellets, 1 cup…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic crust on ear?? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 10 months ago
It’s hard to tell from the photos. It could be a scab from a bite (another rabbit). Or it could be a keratinized papilloma.

Considering the crust is in multiple spots and has not gone away with wound topical treatment, it may be mites: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Mites
I would recommend finding a different vet to have this assessed properly before trying any treatments (at-home treatments for fleas/mites is not recommended due to the need for rabbit-safe treatment, as…[Read more] -

hi everybody, so my bunny has this crust-like thing that feels like a rock on one of his ears. i’ve been wondering what it could be, but google does not suffice. the crust begins small and grows until he scratches it off and it bleeds, making it regrow again. one crust even ”ate” his ear… i don’t know how else to describe it. when he scratched…[Read more]

@Jin – I’m sorry to hear about what has happened to your rabbit, and it’s wonderful that you have taken her in. Please note that if the rabbit is wild, it is recommended to take her to a wildlife rehab service, as wild rabbits do not do well in captivity: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Wild_rabbits#Orphaned_wild_rabbits
If domestic, I encourage you…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Should I neuter my rabbit? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 10 months ago
I agree with the others. Neutering isn’t vital. It’s mostly to stop hormonal behaviors. Some bunnies just don’t exhibit a lot of hormonal behaviors… at least not ones that are bothersome. And if you don’t plan to ever bond him with another rabbit, then I think the decision really is up to you. As Bam pointed out though, there is always the…[Read more]

I honestly have no idea. We recently found a bunny while taking our dog out and not so long ago I picked her up because she was wondering around on top of the dinner table and I noticed dried blood on her side and some missing fur. I did notice cuts on her ears but I just thought they were from wondering around outside for who knows how long.…[Read more]

Also wanted to add that there are some training videos out there about how to use clicker training to get your bun used to having his feet touched. It’s also known as “cooperative care”, and it what’s typically used in zoo animals for health procedures. My favorite video is no longer available, but first she trained the bun to stay on a mat, then…[Read more]
