Oh! You can also get untreated pine planks and attach them to the wall where you baseboards are. Then they can chew on those instead of the baseboards! I think there is some info on that in the “bunny proofing” section under “rabbit info”. Some buns really like to have something solid and anchored to sink their chompers into.

This sounds pretty normal to me. I wouldn’t allow them to touch noses through the bars at all. Since the territory isn’t neutral, once she feels like he is actually getting in her space, she wants to defend it. If possible, have them spend 24/7 next to each other. You can swap who is in what pen every day or so.
Once they are calm with this set…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Is my bunny unbondale?? in the forum BONDING 4 years, 10 months ago
Going on speed dates at the shelter is a very exciting thing, and humping can be expected. Usually there are more issues with rabbits that are outright aggressive towards other rabbits (and I even know of some of those who were deemed unbondable that years later bonded easily to the right rabbit).
I’ve noticed a big decrease in mounting during…[Read more]

Awwww he’s so cute! And just look at them laying near each other! 🙂
Also such a smart idea with the 2×4 to keep the buffer between the fencing! Will have to steal that idea!

Advantage II is safe to use. However, if your bunny has fur mites, it would be ineffective against them. Fur mites need to be treated with Ivermectin or selamectin (e.g. Revolution).
Do not use any products containing fipronil (e.g. Frontline) on a rabbit. It’s toxic to them.

Is there no pet store you can get a small bag from to tide you over?

How wet is his nose? Is there an identifiable discharge? I’m just wondering because sometimes bunnies have “damp” noses from condensation of their breath.

I didn’t see that he was opening his mouth in the video, but maybe I missed it. His breathing looked ok to me, pretty normal after some excitement running around. My understanding is that a bun having trouble breathing will kind of sit up and not lay down like that. His nose also didn’t really look wet to me in the vid, but could have just been…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Huge blood clots and bloody urine in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 10 months ago
Unfortunately, there is a high likelihood that this is cancer (the other possibility is an infection). We are not vets and we have no way of knowing what the outcome will be. But, as Dana said, there are a lot of bunnies that have emergency spays because of uterine cancer. As long as the cancer is still contained within the uterus, spaying will…[Read more]

It sounds like it very well could be reproductive cancer. We can’t know for sure how things will go, but I know of several rabbits who underwent emergency spays for cancer (6 and 7 year old rabbits that came into the shelter) that recovered really well. If the vet can remove all of the cancerous tissue odds are good. The fact that she’s still…[Read more]

Hello everyone!
I saw some dandruff looking crust under my buns fur and hes been having ALOT of fur loss which im assuming are fur mites. I saw this flea treatment for cats and in the reviews someone mentioned using it for their rabbits and it seemingly worked. would it be safe for my bun to treat the fur mites.

Ok – I went ahead and swapped them. He has been exploring and running around like crazy! After he took a break his breathing may be concerning? Didn’t stop him from getting up and running again after a couple minutes but after the video it looked like he was opening his mouth to breath a little too. Does this look…[Read more]

I think it’s very hard to manage contact that it wouldn’t happen, so I don’t think you’d have to worry or be anxious about contamination. You should mention having another rabbit so your vet can advise on treatment.

Thank you. I’ll keep close attention to his breathing. As of now I don’t hear any sound.
I just brought him home Saturday and he has been separated from my other rabbit with double xpens. I was going to start swapping them for pre-bonding and so the new guy can get a little more exercise, do you think they’ve been close enough to be exposed…[Read more]

What a wonderful tribute. Reese truly had a loving, caring owner supporting her on her journey to the rainbow bridge. How supported and loved she must have felt as she made that journey. Binky free Reese.
As you mention, death is often unexpected and never pleasant to witness, and yet I hope you find comfort in knowing that Reese had what sounds…[Read more]

Waiting a week for a runny nose is fine– if it was a URI or something related to respiratory illness, typically symptom progression wouldn’t be so drastic and extreme to cause imminent risk within a week; that being said, keep monitoring and if breathing seems to be getting hard, that would merit attention sooner (since rabbits can only breath…[Read more]

gee, I’m already sniffling and I haven’t even begun writing yet.
I adopted my sweet baby Reese in December 2015, and I loved and cared for her everyday until her untimely passing on September 25th of this year.
I miss her so, so much. She was my best friend and we had a very special bond. She’d give me bunny kisses, run in circles around my…[Read more]
