Bunnybutt replied to the topic Does neutering help a rabbit with stress in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 6 months ago

Thank you!  The bouts tend to occur whenever there’s been a loud sound, particularly at night. I live in an apartment complex and so neighbors occasionally make a racket unfortunately.  But in general he just seems a lot more jumpy, he was such a laid back baby.

I do have my 3rd attempt at getting him neutered scheduled for March, and for both o…[Read more]

It’s hard to link lack of neutering to GI stasis bouts without knowing circumstances around those bouts specifically. Notably, many rabbits are molting right now so if your rabbit it, increased fur consumption may be a factor.

Stasis aside, generally yes we can assume rabbits who are neutered are less stressed. They are not as territorially…[Read more]

Its difficult even for a vet to tell the difference between a partially clogged nose and a lung problem, but a partially clogged nose is a lot more common.

Two things to look out for: If your bun starts breathing through his mouth – rabbits are obligate nose breathers and should never breathe through their mouth. Or if you see him sitting for any…[Read more]

    Hello!

My little guy isn’t neutered yet, he’s probably about 8 or 9 months old by now. He has been super high strung over the last few months, has had a couple of GI stasis bouts and so I keep having to put off getting him in for his surgery. And I’m wondering if  when I’m finally able to get him neutered it will help him with his stress? He…[Read more]

He seems totally normal today. He’s eating, drinking, playing, pooping, etc. if I put my ear next to his nose, I can hear a little squeaking sound when he is sniffing, but he doesn’t seem to be having any trouble breathing at all. Is this reason to take him to the vet? I assumed that if it were a URI or pneumonia he would have gotten worse in the…[Read more]

I’m thinking I’ll probably do that. It’ll be a lot though. There’s a desk and chair that I’ll need to proof the legs on and a bookshelf with books on it. Plus the baseboard are literally 100 years old and are HUGE with a thick paint over them that I’m worried about. They aren’t really smooth and have a lot of grooves in them. I already ordered a…[Read more]

Honestly, I would have the buns free-roam the whole room. I think you could make it really cute and bun-friendly once you bunny-proof the cords, walls and baseboards etc. You can buy cable protectors at IKEA for pretty cheap, and they have transparent wall corner protectors on Amazon! ♡

Due to my bonded pair being tense around other rabbits in the house, I’m choosing to move them into my spare room. They are 6.5 pounds and 4 pounds. Their cage will be roughly 4.6 feetx9.3 feet, so around 43 sq feet and I’m hoping to give them free roam time in the room as well, once I get all of the cords covered and make sure they can’t chew the…[Read more]

In my experience rabbits appreciate bolted lettuce. It’s like they like bitter taste. They do love dandelion greens and stalks and chicory leaves, things that are normally too bitter for humans.

Here’s a quite from my notes from an HRS lecture on nutrition and the GI tract:

“Rabbits shown to be more selective than other species. Intake is driven…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Mites or just dry skin? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 6 months ago

It is difficult to say, because a rabbit can have some dandruff when they shed. Typically with fur mites, the hairloss is concentrated to areas where the mites fester, such as between the shouldblades and just above the root of the tail.

A rabbit can shed in patches.

I think you should keep an eye on this. If you see more dandruff or if you can…[Read more]

Hi i have a concern for my one year old holland lop. She is now 2.4lb.

So at 8-9 months of age, before she reached 2lb, we took her to the vet to get her spayed. The vet took her in and she opened her up in the surgery, just to find out that her ovaries were not fully developed!!.. so she was closed and she could not be spayed. She and my family…[Read more]

My holland lop have been shedding a lot these days and i see new patches of fur have grown on her back. But what worries me is that there are some bald patches. And the bald patches itself dont have flaky skin but along her spine line there are many dandruff looking flakes.

The dandruffs dont move so i dont think its walking dandruff. Is it…[Read more]

Thank you for this! I was scared to facilitate petting because so many people give advice to not get too involved in the bonding and have them focus on each other. I think I need to build up very slowly. I’m not hugely dedicated to the quad, but I need more bunnies to bond basically. 3 different setups is too much for me, but I can probably handle…[Read more]

Its good to be back and with these kind words from such a fantastic community. He is a mini Rex (bread from mini rex), has this little man got some energy 🤪🤪🤪 loves belly rubs and to hold my hand, but does not like being picked up and loves to get so excited he sprays pee everywhere like a furry sprinkler.

Thank you for this! I’m always worried about his breathing. A few months ago, I could hear this faint whistling/squeaking sound when he breathed if I put my ear near his face. He was also having a little bit of thin watery nasal discharge (a very small amount). I rushed him to the vet absolutely convinced that he had some type of pneumonia from a…[Read more]
