What probiotic are you using? Certain strands of live saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewer’s yeast) has been shown to improve weight gain and gut health in baby rabbits.

The pH in the baby bunny stomach is higher than in the stomach of an adult bun, because the baby is supposed to get healthy gut microbes from suckling their mum. This means the…[Read more]

Yes, rapidly developing cataracts and incontinence are typical signs of e cuniculi. Treatment consists of 28 days of Panacir (fenbendazole). It’s a slow acting drug and it wont cure the cataracts. The Pancur is often combined with metacam (meloxicam) to alleviate the tissue inflammation caused by the e c.

Some vets will treat on symtoms only,…[Read more]

I would like to add what I observed when she mounted him and also stole the food. She pins her ears back, which I reckon is a sign of aggression. This morning, as well, she pins her ears back in her demands for grooming. She ran after him a bit, nibbling him, pinning her ears back, demanding to be groomed a few times by forcing her head down,…[Read more]

Thank you for the link, Yes I’ve been unable to find a rehab center as of yet but am trying, the doors were locked and closed when I went and another one said they they are too full to take any new intakes.  In the interim we are just trying to keep them alive.

I’m sorry your bunny is unwell. I’m not sure what you were reading, but what you stated (i.e. live a full lifetime) is not exactly true. Most bunnies have been exposed to EC at some point. Their immune system will suppress it and the majority will never exhibit any symptoms. So, yes, they can live with EC. A smaller percentage of bunnies will show…[Read more]

You can wipe it down with water afterward. Otherwise, I doubt it would be harmful once dried since the residue would be such a minute amount.

    Hi all,

I have two structures made of untreated wood that my rabbits have urinated on. I can get most of the staining out with a vinegar/water solution, but I’m wondering how to best get stubborn stains and odors out that is safe for the bunnies. I’ve read to use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, but since this is something the bunnies can…[Read more]

<p class=”p1″>About two months ago I woke up one morning and my holland lop rabbit had what looked to be a cataract that popped up on both of his eyes so I kind of just brushed it off and thought well he is 7 years old. At first I was seeing this is quite common from what I read. However, the more I dug into it, I saw that about how fast the spots…[Read more]

Since this is a house rabbit forum, most members are not going to have experience with rehabbing wild cottontails. Do you have a rehabber in your area? In some states, it is illegal to possess cottontails. I would recommend trying to find a local rehabber. In the meantime, this website gives some tips on how to get them to urinate:…[Read more]

I agree that it is worth having it checked. It could be irritation/swelling, an obstruction, or simply the shape of her sinuses. You want to make sure though before just saying it is normal for her.

I’ve had buns that did this their whole lives. Some all the time regardless and others just when breathing harder. Though it’s not normal, it could be something “normal” for that bun. Would get it checked out first before determining that though.

I acquired through a neighbor a box of newborn rabbits (now about 3 days old), the mother is no longer.  Two have died due to injuries/puncture wounds; These two did not make it through the first night.  The other 3 are doing well with fat bellies, easy to feed, and seem to be doing well and active for their age.

In the past I was always able t…[Read more]

Hi Bam! Thank you for answering.

She’s not sneezing or snoring and i tend to shake the hay before displaying it for her because of dust, she had some hay allergy when she was a baby so i avoid feeding her dusty hay!

Dampness around the nostrils is not considered a sign of anything bad. Since rabbits only breathe through their noses, the moisture in the air and the rabbit’s activity level can make the nostril area damp.

The weezing sound is not normal though, it could indicate some sort of irritation in the airways in the nose, like from breathing in hay dust…[Read more]

Just wanted to update that around her 2nd birthday (~ a month ago), she started nibbling pellets and vegetables. She isn’t enthusiastic yet but will come when pellets are dispensed.

We had tried different pellets and that didn’t work so it wasn’t about finding something she liked. I guess she needs lots of time and watching her friend eat to be reassured.

    Hi DanaNM,

    Many thanks for your reply.

Yes, I had several bonding sessions with them in a neutral space (an exercise pen). She was very demanding and he groomed her once in there but then always stepped away when she wanted grooming. He wanted out most of the time, didn’t seem too comfortable with her demands (also the poop issue arose during…[Read more]
