You can give him a little bit of critical care, I think you should. Here’s a link to Oxbow Critical Care info on dosage per the bun’s weight and frequency of feedings (the website is from Oxbow Australia, but the info applies even if youre not in Australia):

We are definitely gonna do a mold inspection to be on the safe side! We just think it’s so weird that we can’t smell it when we start sniffing around the carpet, but I think I’m going to move them to a non- adopted area until they’re bonded and having a little less territorial accidents. I was hoping I’m just being crazy, we only had the buns a we…[Read more]

Thanks, Dana!  Yeah, I’m not sure — our vet did discourage us from using anything topical (creams, ointments, sprays) for the skin in a situation with mild/early issues on hocks where there aren’t open sores, for what it’s worth, but to focus on making the environment softer (e.g., Sheepette).  That approach worked for Teddy (although he also d…[Read more]

He ignores his toys . He has lots of branches, bark and hay to chew on but when he sees me or sees my bedroom light on from the other end of the house he wants to come out and he can’t. I put wood over the front part of his enclosure but that hasn’t helped also there are mice near where he is and I think he might see them as other bunnies or…[Read more]

Thanks a lot, that’s reassuring advice!  Yes, they’re doing well in terms of diet and litter.  They’re free roam and have lots of zoomies everyday!

This is very sad. Numbers in the ears means they may have been abandoned 4-H projects or other breeding rejects. 🙁

I agree you should separate them to make sure you don’t end up with accidental litters. A puppy pen is a great temporary set up, you can put pee pads on the floor to make clean up easier and provide a litter box filled with hay in…[Read more]

A general FYI for anyone seeing whitewood at hardware stores. Whitewood is usually spruce, pine, or fir. The exact species is subject to change, and it’s generally based on price and availability.  This one threw me for a loop when I first saw it because I had never heard of a “Whitewood” tree.

I agree with Wick&Fable that the bond has been upset somehow, and that a check-over at the vet is a good idea. That level of fur-pulling is not normal in a bonded pair. When do you notice the scuffling? Is it only when they are anticipating food, or did you notice it other times as well? Did a particular behavior trigger a fight (such as a…[Read more]

It’s a holiday here and most vets are closed. He was weaned from his mom last week. We’ve had him for 3 days. He was fine, full of energy and was eating yesterday. This morning he ate a TINY bit of hay.  He was a little active earlier but didn’t last long this morning. He doesn’t want his pellets or more hay.

Another small update! I’ve been away for work the past few days but my husband reports that bun has been very active and has not had any major poopy butt issues!

DanaNM replied to the topic Need help coping with rabbit smell in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 10 months ago

This reminded me, that in some circles of rabbit care (not so much in the house rabbit community) people claim that adding a small amount of apple cider vinegar to their rabbit’s water helps with smell.

I can’t verify if this works or not… and normally I wouldn’t advocate for adding things to a bun’s water, but in your situation it might be…[Read more]

I imagine you could find somewhere to mount it… maybe you could leave a corner of a few panels just near the litter box so you have something to attach it to? Or attach something to the wall?

Ahh, yes if he has a urinary infection that would definitely explain it! I bet things will improve a lot once that is cleared.

Can you hang some mats from the side so he has something safe to chew on?

Hanging a towel or blanket over the bars can also help with chewing, but you should make sure he has appropriate toys to help with boredom and is getting enough exercise.

Poor baby, she’s lucky to have you taking care of her!

So, I’m not familiar with the first two supplements on this list. Have you run these by your vet? That would be the best option!

Most people don’t give bene-bac daily, but I don’t think there is any harm in it. I also don’t think there are any contradictions with giving both the urinary and…[Read more]

At 8 weeks old he is very vulnerable and fragile, I recommend getting him to the vet ASAP. When was the last time he ate and how long have you had him?

Does he feel cold? If his ears feel cold you should try to warm him up. Pain can cause rabbit’s temp to drop and send them into shock. You can hold him on your lap with a blanket over him, or…[Read more]

Hmmm, without seeing or smelling it, I really can’t say.  If you are really concerned the safest course of action may be to get a mold inspection….

Can you protect those wooden areas with some vinyl sheeting to make sure it’s not continually getting wet?

Could the smell be the bunnies themselves? Bunnies can be more smelly during bonding……[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Are some breeds better than others for the house in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 10 months ago

Agree that it’s more about personality, and often age! Younger buns have a lot more destructive energy, as to unspayed/unneutered buns. Preparing the environment properly is really important, but even with great bunny-proofing, some buns are just not good candidates for unsupervised free-roam. Actually a lot of rabbits get surrendered at shelters…[Read more]

This is a lovely update! I’ll have to look into that spray! Myra has some callouses on her heels that I’ve been watching… I wonder if that would be a good option for her?

    Yay Teddy!
