If there is concerns that perhaps this particular animal shelter is not well-informed on rabbits, I would have a vet examine for a spay scar…. unsure if a physical exam can feel the absence of the uterus or not. Separately, if not a well-informed shelter, regardless of spay status or not, the rabbits may not have been bonded properly in the…[Read more]

20lbs for 2 rabbits — a small and large rabbit
… this includes hay waste, which is the hay that just gets thrown out because they don’t eat it/soil it.

Re: litter, I use pine pellet litter and buy it in 40lb bags which usually lasts a couple months.

Huh. I never even thought about a dehumidifier. That’s an excellent idea, thanks! The humidity is typically very low in my home, so I wonder if there’s a sort of reverse one that humidifies the environment.

I know you have air purifiers, but what about dehumidifiers? Temperature changes often relate to changes in weather, which impacts humidity of things.

50-70 oz and 8lbs of hay. I have two bunnies, a netherland dwarf and a polish dwarf.

I think it is her urine that is causing the odor. In the past I have gone to changing her pan twice a day, but within an hour or so it is back to smelling just as bad. There is really no one I can bring in my home to ask about the smell as my family lives so far away. Yes, the smell is so intense it nauseates me. It is really difficult to live like this.

Its reasurring to hear how common this is! So cute and little but so greedy and tenacious 😂

So its been a few nights of trying the advice suggested!

I have basically placed their box of food in another room out the way and I am quietly taking portions out and casually going to their pen so they check out what I’m doing then I quickly place it in…[Read more]

Heh.  I said “apparently” because the Human Society listed them both as spayed, but when I asked for documentation proving so, they didn’t have any.  Basically, rabbits don’t get the same treatment like dogs or cats when it comes down to having actual documents showing a spay was done.

So sometimes when they showed behaviour like this, or Peach t…[Read more]

How many pounds of hay do your rabbits go through per month? And how many oz of paper litter? ( if you use litter).

I have some thoughts. But first, define “apparently” spayed.

So we brought home two new buns back in May (it’s been slow to get them to warm up to us, but that’s another story!)  They were 11 months old, spayed (apparently) and bonded.

Anyway, on certain occasions, Zelda and Peach would get into a fight. Nipping, spinning around each other, pulling fur, and sometimes kicking each other back until we break…[Read more]

I agree with LBJ. The abx does kill off some of the beneficial gut bacteria, and it takes a bit of time for the gut to get back into good working order. So you might notice some gurgling, possibly some gas discomfort, for a few weeks more, but as your buns appetite (esp for hay) stays good, things will righten themselves.

I don’t know how it is in other countries, but here is how it works in the US. If you have a bank account and they give you a debit card, you are not responsible for unauthorized purchases. If you notice suspicious activity on your account, then you notify the bank. They will reverse the unauthorized charges, freeze your account, and then send you…[Read more]

Yes, it could be gas. You can try giving simethicone to see if it helps.

This looks like a response to belly pain. She is pressing her belly to the floor. It looks different with different buns. Sometimes it looks like a failed pushup, sometimes it looks like a failed yoga pose.
