She is at the vet currently, getting stitches. I can send a pic as soon as i can, but it might be a few hrs. Apparently she needs anesthesia, which i’m very nervous about…

Btw, fleece is typically made of polyester. There is cotton fleece, but polyester fleece is warmer and wont absorb moisture the way cotton typically does.
Wool is another option, sometimes you can buy used wool blankets cheap in charity shops etc. Give them a wash in 30 C and they’ll be very good for insulation. If they felt somewhat in the wash,…[Read more]

Could you add some sheets of wood between them and the blankets? That would also add some insulation and protection from the wind. Potentially adding some plastic sheeting to the screens in the porch would also help.

So glad she perked up! Nothing like threatening with a trip to the vet to get a bun to snap out of it! LOL I literally tell my buns, “if you don’t start eating we are going to the vet!” and it’s weird how often it works haha
In seriousness, I like to give a bit of fluids along with simethicone at the first signs of issues, because slight gut…[Read more]

I dont think polar fleece is safer than any other fleece. It might be warmer though.
The reason we often use fleece for our buns is that it’s non-woven. That means it doesnt have long threads that the bun can swallow. Rabbits however dont like to swallow stuff that they havent chewed into small fragments first.
Rabbits cope well with cold as…[Read more]

My rabbits live on our porch which is enclosed. I only cover their cages at night during winter months. Because the porch is not heated and it has only screens in the windows. I was just wondering if blankets are safe and if it can be none polar fleece

I’m glad she perked up! This could’ve been an uncomplicated bout of gas.

Please send us a picture. Bring her indoors if possible, if she lives outside. You dont want her to get cold (wounded rabbits are more sensitive to low temperature).
Wounds should as a rule be cleaned, but if you can get to a vet within a few hours, it might be better if you dont mess with the wound.

I ended up calling the only emergency vet that specializes in exotic pets, the were so backed up the said they would call me if they ended up with an opening. They did, and said I could bring her in around midnight. Well as soon as I went and got car ready and was about to put her in her carrier she started perking up. I gave her a small syringe…[Read more]

Just gave her the metcam, letting her hide in her box for a bit as don’t want to stress her out too much. How long does it usually take to have an affect?

Both me and my Son had to work today, so came home and couldn’t find Miu for a bit. She was all hunched up and not taking treats so gave her simethecone (3 doses now). Not sure how long she was like that but she did eat lunch, so no more than 4 hours. Now almost 3hrs after I found her and not really any improvement. Unfortunately don’t have a b…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Pros and cons of a bunny room? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 2 years, 7 months ago
Hmmm, yeah this room is a bit less central. The house is kind of one long row of rooms (a result of add-ons over the long history of the house), and the room we would use is all the way at one end. If it was connected to the living room I’d prob feel better about it, but then again my desk is right next to the door to the room, so I’d still be…[Read more]

I wouldn’t keep him on Metacam long term, hence is why I asked if it would be problematic to even keep him on it a couple of weeks.
They wanted to do 4 x-rays: 2 of the head and 2 of the body. Each ranged from $150 – $200. Plus, bloodwork was OVER $200. There were other fees that I didn’t even understand. This is not treating him, this is just…[Read more]

I never felt like the boys were isolated. However, they could see into the living room from their room. They would often wait at the gate so they could be let out to roam. But sometimes, even if the gate was open, then just didn’t feel like coming out of their room. It was funny because hours would go by and then you would all of the sudden see a…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic How to Get My Bun Used to Being Picked Up in the forum BEHAVIOR 2 years, 7 months ago
Yes, most bunnies do not like being picked up. No amount of desensitizing will get them to enjoy it. But Bam is correct, you can get most bunnies used to being handled. They will learn to tolerate it, but they won’t like it. I always started with baby steps and then worked my way up. Start with picking bunny up for a few seconds and follow with a…[Read more]

Dana, that’s very true. Somethings the costs outweigh the benefits. And if something major isn’t covered, then it may not be worth it.

Pain in the sinuses can make a bunny not want to chew hard things. Back to the dental issue theory, if tooth roots are growing into the sinus cavity then it could discourage the bunny from anything the involves a lot of chewing.
