Sterling replied to the topic I need help/input on what could be causing these symptoms in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 7 months ago

I just read through previous forum posts talking about this and one suggestion is digestive upset from things in their diet but he eats a ton of hay and about 2 tablespoons of pellets. Someone else suggested being overweight which I considered but the vet has never said anything about his weight, although he is a few ounces heavier than last time.…[Read more]

Alrighty, I’ll probably pair his treatment with it then.

Also, a bit of a random observation but I was just watching him eat his poops and when he was done and hopped away he left a bit of a mess behind. I think this has been happening frequently but it was more apparent because it was on the vinyl while I was washing the pee mats. He ate the b…[Read more]

It does look weird, I’m not quite sure what I’m looking at. What is the white-ish spot that I’ve cocled in this pic?:

Is that a crusty bare spot of skin or is it just some sort of optical illusion?

The skin on the back of the neck looks very red. Bare spots can occur during heavy molting, but that doesnt make the skin red. Do you have more…[Read more]

As LBJ says, it’s EC that causes the inflammation, not the meds. Giving him Metacam (active ingredient meloxicam) with the Panacur is fine. Metacam is the same typ of drug as ibuprofen is for humans, an NSAID. In many countries, not the USA though, meloxicam is sold OTC for humans for the same problems as ibuprofen adresses -muscle pain, joint…[Read more]

Okay gotcha. I know that was basically said already but I just needed extra reassurance because I don’t want him to be in pain. 😅

The medication for EC doesn’t cause inflammation. Treating for EC when it is suspected won’t hurt anything. The risk of side effects is low. However, it isn’t a bad idea to pair Fenbendazole with a NSAID because EC itself can cause inflammation.

Quick and possibly silly question, will inflammation from being on the meds only happen if he actually has EC? I’m so dang paranoid that he’s going to have bad side effects from this and if he doesn’t actually have EC it will all be for nothing. This is why I wanted to get x-rays done to check if it’s something else first but the vet seemed…[Read more]

I believe my new young bun is over grooming my older two buns. Not sure what to do…

On one of my buns, I found an open wound roughly 1/4-1/2 a quarter in size. At first I thought it might be from a fight. I treated it and it’s healed. I see now on the edge of the healed section, there is more, albiet much smaller, section of open wound. Around…[Read more]

Our rabbi is about 8 years old. He’s been in good health. But recently the fur on top of his head has fallen out, exposing his skin. Could you take a look at this picture and let me know what you think is wrong and how to tend to it and heal it.

    Hey!

The short answer is that you cannot train hormones out of a bun. The urges are simply too strong. He will have seasons of being calmer though. The reason the advice your seeing is castration is because it is the only way you can actually prevent this behaviour happening regularly unfortunately 🙁 . The spike in hormonal behaviour could be…[Read more]

Hello- my rabbit has an ear infection too . Otiti midia. She’s also on the same antibiotic your rabbit is on . She doesn’t have a head tilt but she’s very wobbly and not fully balanced . I honestly would just keep giving the antibiotic till you talk to specialist .

I do think the best thing would be to cut out the gum. If its too close to the skin, you could wait. She will try to wash her face, the hair will grow and eventually be shed.

Ingestion of small amounts of gum is not harmful -rabbits can’t swallow big chunks of things, due to their anatomy they can only swallow what they’ve properly chewed. The…[Read more]

Hi, I am new to bunny bonding, and I am stuck in a situation that I don’t know if it is normal or if they have lost the bond or had never bonded.

I have for more than a year two female rabbits: Kiki (2 years old and neutered) and Kaya (3 years old and neutered), they are mother and daughter. They came from the animal shelter together, eventually…[Read more]

Oh no! Bunnies can get themselves into terrible messes!

I’ve not come across this before so I can only provide suggestions. I’m not sure how chewing gum would affect the gut if accidently swallowed but I would keep a close eye and encourage lots of hay eating and drinking incase a little was eaten. As for the fur, is she long/dense furred? If she…[Read more]

So I have a Holland lop, about 2.5 years old, and she’s a MENACE. She got into my trash today and pulled out a chewed wad of gum, it was a small piece, and I pulled a ton out of her mouth and fur, so I don’t that she actually swallowed any, but like 90% of it is stuck in the fur around her mouth and I think in her cheek? I’m not sure about the…[Read more]
