DanaNM replied to the topic Hay containment ideas? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 2 years, 6 months ago
I think forum moderator @Wick and Fable (but it could have been someone else) used these storage cube grids that were actually solid plastic to make some bunny pen walls. I was also considering making some sort of hay barrier using Coroplast (that I would attach to the pen wall where their hay rack is). Maybe something like that would work?

DanaNM replied to the topic Neutered 5-year-old rabbit is suddenly acting very erractically/"hormonally"? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 6 months ago
My mind immediately went to a urinary problem. Hormonal behavior like that can actually be caused by bladder crystals or sludge causing irritation. Him not drinking is also concerning, so I think it’s good you are taking him to the vet. They can check for issues with an x-ray and a urinalysis to look for bacteria and sludge. What greens does he…[Read more]

Hi there!
Your plan sounds like a good starting point. It’s good to have a plan, but be prepared to adjust if things are not working as expected. Every pair of buns is different, so some strategies work better for some than others.
I have a couple suggestions. First would be to swap actually bunnies when doing pre-bonding, instead of just the…[Read more]

Also, sorry again for the double post but I just wanted to say a great big thank you!
Hearing not all abscesses are created equally really made me feel a whole lot better, and earlier statements about what he got into probably not being the cause relieved so much guilt I’ve been carrying for weeks.
Overall I am once more extremely grateful for…[Read more]

Gus update:
TLDR: He’s getting better but slowly, and I’ve made some errors along the way.
Day seven of antibiotics. Day five of warm compresses, though only the last two days have been successful.
Smaller abscess is definitely gone, haven’t felt it for days.
Bigger abscess is down to its original chickpea size/right around there. It’s been…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic I need help/input on what could be causing these symptoms in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 6 months ago
“Typical” dosing is 15-18 mg/kg. However, sometimes vets will prescribe a lower dose depending on what you are trying to treat.

I do still sit with her on the floor, just not as much. She’s always allowed up on the bed with me though and she does love coming up here lol. For the past few days I’ve been spending more time on the floor with her and it has seemed to help a little.
She’s actually turning 2 years old tomorrow! She’s been spayed for a year now. I’m hoping that…[Read more]

Well she’s grooming herself a lot because of the cecal dysbiosis, mushy poops get stuck in her fur. I don’t know why she produces mushy poops only in the morning. Like she would produce one normal formed cecotrope and in the next couple of hours she would produce like 3 more cecotropes that are mushy and not well formed. Then she would proceed…[Read more]

I personally am not a fan of doing no-pellets for a long period of time. As Bam mentions, the last thing would be to have your rabbit exercise more, but generally that requires some treat/pellet incentives. Perhaps you can feed individual pellets while she does laps and follows you for them.
When is the last time the vet saw your rabbit? Bodies…[Read more]

I have a Holland Lop who’s around 5 years old now, and was neutered shortly after I adopted him (he was about 6 months old then).
He’s usually EXTREMELY calm, lazy, and a little aloof. He’ll (mostly) welcome pets and cuddles if I initiate but he won’t initiate them himself. He spends most of his time lounging on his various rugs, eating hay, or…[Read more]

Yes 120. I’m not sure what target dosage in mg/kg means on that calculator?

LBJ10 replied to the topic Gypsum? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 6 months ago
Chewing on drywall can cause problems in rabbits. Gypsum isn’t toxic, but it isn’t good for their GI tract either. I had a bunny that chewed the drywall once and he had stomach pain/gas afterward. I was able to prevent him from chewing anymore and it wasn’t a problem after that. So yes, a “toy” made of gypsum is probably not a good idea.
