It can be very tricky to syringe feed a rabbit. That he’s feisty is considered a goid thing though, weak rabbit dont have the energy to make a fuss.
Maybe you could mix the crirical care with something that makes it more appetizing. Canned pumpkin for example (not pie filling mix that has spuces and sugar). A tiny amoynt of apple juice…[Read more]

🙁 They still can’t get along.
I forced them together for about three weeks in the larger/open area. It progressively got worse ending with… They were eating pellets just fine but when NewBoyBun hopped away, GirlBun went to nip and NewBoyBun squeeked; I could not find any injuries so I think he was just terrified. I thought I’d just let…[Read more]

If he’s eating something and still pooping (even if they are small), then I wouldn’t stress so much over the force feeding. If the vet gave him sub-Q fluids then he may not feel thirsty at the moment. Have you tried making the Critical Care thicker and putting it on a plate? One of my bunnies would eat it off of a plate. I also hear that Sherwood…[Read more]

Hi!
My bunny is recovering from stasis and it’s very scary , as it’s our first time (hopefully last!!)
He doesn’t drink water at all, will only have a few bites of hay outside his litterbox, and will sometimes accept lettuce. He is willing to eat his forage (but I’m not giving those as I want everything stuck in his stomach to come our…[Read more]

Thank you for the update! I’m happy to hear it worked out!
A half spay is unusual, they’re not done on rabbits where I am, but they are sometimes done laparoscopically on guinea pigs.
I have read about half spays where only the uterus is removed. It was suggested it could be good for the rabbit, she’d get to retain her “natural”…[Read more]

That’s awesome to hear! It sounds like both buns are very happy together. 😀 So glad you (and the buns!) were able to work things out.
I have never heard of a half spay, either. I wonder what the logic/purpose of that would be for bunnies?

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Thanks so much for the update (and sorry about the technical difficulties).</p>
A half spay is a first for me, but that would definitely be a barrier to bonding, so it’s wonderful she got through that process with you and there’s a happy ending. Your hard work paid off!! -

Hello, I tried many times to reply in my original thread, but the system always logs me out when I am doing so. Hence, the only option I have is to create a new post.
Following my posts, I just wanted to give an update: We kept her as the owner refused to take her back. So I said I would keep her only if we did another spay and they pay for it.…[Read more]

Hmm… this goes against most bonding protocols… but what would happen if you let Toast come around to his side? If he’s so uncomfortable in the neutral space, perhaps he would be open to having her enter his.

I should add, when they are side by side with bars separating them (even within a foot of her) he does eat, he flops, he investigates her. It’s just in the neutral environment (which I need for progression as the house is very much her territory) he looks really terrified

Ah, my apologies, it occurred to me I used the wrong buns name. Sorry, I meant to be saying it was Toast doing the grooming. I’m sorry!

Hi, thanks both for your responses. I did try the banana trick in a session the other day but he doesn’t go for it. He won’t take treats either, which suggests he is feeling a bit uncertain. When he does feel comfortable, he’s very affectionate, for example he’d groom me if I stepped into his temporary pen.

Are you planning to eventually bond them into a trio, since it sounds like Tea and Toast are already a pair? (My apologies if I missed that somewhere).
I could be misunderstanding something, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like when Porridge is putting his head down, he is “asking” for the grooms and Tea is giving them. So, at…[Read more]

I think covering the carrier is a good idea.
If you plan to get to the appt early, would there be somewhere nearby you can just sit in the car or outside to allow him to settle then walk to vet office?
Hope it goes well ! -

If you think it’s a matter of not reciprocating grooming, then could you try the banana trick?

Hey DanaNM! Good to hear from you! Hope you have been doing well. 🙂
Yeah, he is the first bun I’ve had who really just seems freaked out by the car. The others have always just slept most of the time, like you mentioned. Thanks for your advice, too. 😀

Hi there,
I’m looking for some advice on a scenario I’m in at the moment. I’ve done a lot of reading and bonded bunnies before but this situation is new to me so I’m wondering what thoughts are. For context:
Bonded Pair
Tea = Male, roughly 4, although a rescue with no prior history
Toast = Female, 4 years old
Solo Male
Porridge = Male,…[Read more]

Wow what a saga!
As for car ride tips, I had to do a lot of car rides with my buns in the past few years (including a cross-country move) and they typically handled it much better than I was expecting. I’ve found for longer car rides they tend to just settle and sleep eventually. Before the RHDV2 vaccine was available in my state I was driving…[Read more]

Thanks guys!
Yeah, Chris will be on petting duty while I drive. 🙂 That’s a good idea about the herbs.
And yes, it will just be a drop off. In fact, because the office is about 2 hours away and they usually get started super early, we are dropping him off the day before. So, definitely sending him some pellets and hay. 🙂 (I also figure this…[Read more]
