How would he get ear mites when he is an indoor bunny.
We have 2 other bunnies downstairs and completely away from him with no contact.
Is the treatment expensive

That looks like it could be the start of ear mites. It can be very painful so I would not recommend trying to remove anything. Best to wait till Friday and get the mite treatment from your vet. Standard treatments are topical ivermectin or selamectin based products, such as Revolution.

My Lionhead which is mixed with Rex has been scratching his ear and shaking his head afterwards but not for very long.
I just had his nails trimmed because they were really long so i thought he scratched himself too hard and hurt himself. When I gently pat behind that ear he acts like it hurts,
I took my flashlight from my phone today and…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Rabbit has fluid around lungs, looking for treatment options in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 1 year, 5 months ago
I am very sorry.
Since she’s gotten worse you should contact your vet. The furosemide dosage could be too low or the problem could be so grave that a diuretic like furosemide makes very little difference.
For any invasive procedure the odds are of course better if the rabbit is in reasonably good condition.

Her condition has worsened, and she doesn’t want to eat. I don’t know if that’s a side effect from all this. But I think I need more help deciding what to do. Do you think there’s a real risk of shock or something going wrong by draining the fluid as the vet does? IMO, she is not prone to such things and is typically my chiller rabbit.

DanaNM replied to the topic Longtime bonded pair, all of sudden one is lunging at the other in the forum BONDING 1 year, 5 months ago
Glad they are back to normal! Girls def are more territorial towards other girls in my experience… it also could depend on the other bun’s spay status, etc. Lots of variables for sure!
I was mostly wondering if by cleaning you removed some of their scent, and then accidentally deposited some of the other bun’s scent, so maybe it seemed more…[Read more]

Thanks Dana! Hope you are well!
They seem back to normal. Miu response is often to lunge when she feels threatened and I suspect she is more territorial. She is much harder for me to read than Dorian. No health issues for her, though Dorian is molting like crazy and had bad gas a few days ago. As for cleaning, they both actually find it fu…[Read more]

I bet it was the smells combined with the cleaning, as you suspect. I think in the future if you change out of the clothes (especially socks) that came in contact with the other buns you should be OK (and hold off on cleaning their area a bit). If you see that bun regularly she also might become more accustomed to the smell and not react so…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunnies Fighting After Returning from Vet in the forum BEHAVIOR 1 year, 5 months ago
Yes these things happen sometimes unfortunately, but often they resolve pretty easily. If the fighting hasn’t been too bad (bickering vs. true fighting), then you can try working with them in a neutral space and let them resolve things. If things have escalated to a true fight, then I would separate and work to re-bond them as though they were…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny starting to like me – I think? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 1 year, 5 months ago
Sounds like things are going well! My main advice is to play a little “hard to get”. Don’t force interaction or petting. The first goal is to let her get to the point where she feels comfortable laying near you, which may not happen if you are trying to pet her often. Hand feeding is good, and spending time with her just “ignoring” her is also…[Read more]

Sometimes the stress from being at the vet can trigger fights. And sometimes the “weird vet smell” that lingers on the bunny being treated can trigger fights as well. You boy was there, but he wasn’t being handled by the vets, having meds put in him, etc.
Situations like this can sometimes resolve on their own. If they continue to have problems,…[Read more]

My Doe (2 yrs) recently came home from the vet after having gi stasis. she’s currently on the mend, however her and her buck brother (4yrs) have started fighting. They are a bonded pair and have never had a fight until now. They were even at the vet together to keep the Doe calm while she was being treated.
This is such a suprise for me as they…[Read more]

It’s only been 2 weeks, but she does sound like she’s curious. This is typical of young bunnies. She wants to check you out, but not necessarily be touched. The fact that she will take food and treats from your hand is a good sign that she is comfortable with you. And yes, that IS all they care about – food, food, food. The nose bonking can mean a…[Read more]

I just got a new bunny 2 weeks ago (Holland Lop) and I think she is starting to like me? I can’t really tell because it’s only when I have food / treats. She eats out of my hand, will let me hold her paws while she snacks, lets me pet her, and generally while I sit in her pen doing work she will walk over my legs, sniff at me, etc.
Recently she…[Read more]
