more advertising to the site. BOO!!!

The economy has been really hard on us, and the store normally can support the site, and help bring in a just a little extra – like to pay for our health insurance, but holy cow, things really slowed down in our store in that last six months with little bursts of business here and there, but not enough to truly sustain us for the long haul so  we are beginning to struggle.  The only way we know how to keep things afloat is to bring in more $$ and that means advertising.  I have done my very best these last three years to keep it out of the forum. I HATE going to forums with a bunch of junky pop ups and clutter ads! HATE it HATE it!   So I promise you, that whatever we do, it will NOT be busy, and not be distasteful and none of those crazy colored distraction ads with moving monkeys and such.

We have some great new products that we are planning to create in the future and if those bring in enough to get us back on track, then we will take the ads out of the forum.

But for now,  I PROMISE  only tasteful ads will be allowed, but I just wanted to let you know why they will be there. We are not getting greedy, we are literally just trying to survive.

Understandable BB. I am sorry to hear the purse strings are having to tighten a bit. But I think we all know how you feel. It’s everywhere.
There isn’t an advertisement in the world that would keep me from coming to binkybunny.com. It’s too important to me.

Yes, I’m sorry you’re feeling the crunch too. I’m sure advertising won’t be driving us away. It’s very considerate to give us members the heads-up though so thank you.

I don’t know if this sounds totally ludicrious but I was thinking about a small membership fee… I’m really not that familiar with how forums operate, I suppose most are free to join but surely not all are? I would be happy to pay a small fee if it meant keeping the site. It has been invaluable to me. Only thing is, it might deter people considering registering as a member. Maybe a 3 month free trial access then a fee after? I might be terribly unpopular by suggesting such a thing – especially as the members are likely feeling the pinch too. I’m just thinking “out loud” I suppose.

You do what you have to BB, I agree that no ad could keep me away from this site. If you get some of the ads where we can help by clicking through on them, let us know which ones they are and I’ll be more than happy to go click happy for you!

I know you would hate to, but a lot of informative sites I visit have a “donate” option if someone wants to help support the site. I get help from these on my programming, coding, etc all the time and I like being able to send a few dollars every now and then in appreciation.

I know I would be in DBP (deep bunny poo) if not for your wonderful site!

I don’t know who you have lined up to advertise, but since we recommend certain products so frequently, like Oxbow, can you approach them to advertise with you? They’re so huge nationally now that I imagine they pay well if they are convinced you’re worth it.

By the way, your RSS feed via iGoogle gadgets seems to be down for a while. That was how I found you, and a member was missing his feed as well. I am wondering if there is a Google option that could help advertise the Store more directly and produce more hits.

I agree with everyone else – I have “found a home” on this site and wouldnt mind advertising one bit if it meant keeping the site. I look forward to any new products you introduce as everything I have bought from the bb store arrives to rave reviews from my buns. The extra touches make me smile and I feel like this is a core group of friends with supporting each other in their “bunny habit”.

This is not an issue Jennifer. Many sites are having to do this to survive. I will deal with the changes in format (eventually… lol!) I wish I could frequent the BB store more, but with Mike not working, I can’t. We’re personally doing what we can to keep the buns in greens and hay and have a little set aside just in case. I’ve actually had to start buying Oxbow at a store that I don’t approve of— they sell animals :o( b/c they are the only local store that offers coupons… I end up saving 20% on my Oxbow purchases. I feel bad when I go, but we have to save where we can, and I won’t skimp on quality for M & M…

I dont mind!  I much rather see a ton of ads then no longer see BB.  New products are fun, im sure ill be in the store buying one of whatever it is lol.  Both of mine love their mini maze, so Im going to connect a big super maze when they bond and have more room.  And im with Jersey- I would not mind having to pay a small memership fee if it meant the difference between no more BB and BB.

Thanks everyone. Thanks for the ideas too. I will definitely keep the site free. But appreciate those of you that would actually pay. But that will never happen. And actually as far as advertising, it’s better to have the site stay free anyway as that helps drive visitors to the site which then will help with advertising.

Right now all we have are google image ads on the rest of the pages. So, of course, if you feel the itch to click…I won’t stop you.

And the NIC cube advertiser idea – I did found a guy who actually does advertising on another site who has a bunch the cube set-up kits already ready to go! I think he has a store somewhere on ebay. So thanks for the ideas.

I will not be advertising Oxbow only because it competes with our own store that sells quite a bit of Oxbow, but there are tons of other places that would be of interest to bunny lovers (like the cube kit site) that would be interesting. I will definitely be approaching my favorite non-competitors.

I’m new here but I have to say that I really like this forum. I have in the past joined 2 other bunny forums & my introductory post was not replied to in either (OK 1 reply on 1 of them) I didn’t feel very welcomed. The members were not very active so posts were few & far between & there was spamming issues on one. The people here are very friendly, knowledgeable & have great senses of humor. I don’t know any other people with bunnies but if I did I would happily direct them here. It’s great to chat & laugh with other bunny people. I can easily put up with some advertising in order to enjoy this forum & my new friends.

Yea I agree, advertisements would not bother me as long at the site stays up! This site is really nice and when I have a problem thats bunny related I always come here.
P.S. I would buy more from your store but someone (my mom) keeps discouraging me even though I said I would pay for it myself.

As you can tell, we have the ads now in the forum (top and bottom). Some of them are google ads and for the most part they are just fine, but I don’t have control over what may come up, but I can prevent it from coming up again if it does not suit this forum (animal trap companies, strange dating services, and any weirdo stuff, etc).  So IF you see an ad that would be not suitable for this board, please note the web address and then email me at jenniferATBinkyBunnyDOTcom.   If it gets too whacky, we may have to pull google ads, but for now, we’ll see how it goes.
