Isn’t it illegal to sell/pedal animals on the streets? I am getting really pissed off because lots of people are popping up on craigslist who bought bunnies in downtown Los Angeles and now want to get rid of them. This is really personal to me because Pookers was sold in downtown. Is it illegal? If so everyone please call the cops on these people the next time you are downtown.

Arrggghh!    I hate to see that too.  I wonder if Animal Care & Control investigators would be the ones to call – which in many counties is considered a section fo the police department.  My understanding is it illegal to sell without a permit to do so,.and even then there are certain rules they have to follow about display, care etc etc.    And as far as doing it in the street, I can’t imagine they would have a permit for that unless it was a particular event.

Whoops, i meant craigslist (corrected). I am going to call LA animal control and complain about it. They sell these baby bunnies in like the size of a hamster travel cage and tell people they are dwarves. They sell them anywhere from $5-30. They also sell illegal reptiles & birds on the street corners. (In the fashion district).

It’s in Santee Alley… it’s really difficult to stop those people because they are just walking around. I posted on binky sometime in December when I was back home that I had almost bought one to save it, but I didn’t do it. It would just make it seem like they had a bunch of customers. The bunny I saw, it’s eyes weren’t even open. That’s what killed me, that it couldn’t even see the world it was being sold in. I asked the woman how much, and she told me $30.

I know that the LAPD has been trying to crack down on the dvd sales down there, and I remember for a few months there were less animals in the alley. But last time I went it seemed to have exploded with turtles- lots of birds too. I really don’t know how much animal control can do about it. I’m sure a lot of things in that area need changes- I mean the homeless there are some of the worst I’ve seen, the living conditions are awful. . .

it’s all over the place, garment district (which is basically like tijuana), chinatown, koreatown. there is tons of illegal activity going on down there, but they should especially be concerned about the illegal reptiles because they mess up our ecosystem

i hate to see that too. sometimes they are living in such horible conditions too. when i was searching for a bunny i was thinking about buying it from people that sold them like that because i feel sorry for the little fells so i wanted to give one a home but as i did more reading that was not good. i just think that if children were more exposed and taught about animals and how you should adopt instead of buying pets in a store i think that it would be lower the chances of a pet being sold under the table or being breeded in mass quantities and sold. when i talk about a bunny to anyone, the first thing thing they think of is something that is produced in mass quantites and should not be but in the same category as a dog or a cat….. apparently a bunny’s life is not as important as a dog or cat…… =/

you know what we can probably do, go to schools and ask to post signs advertising please adopt or something. that would probably help. but ofcourse you must ask first. either that or around ur neighborhood. start little i always say. =)
