What type of prognosis does the vet give? Is she generally in good health now aside from the abscess?  I had a younger bunny with a dental abscess that we treated aggressively and it didn’t return (he passed away of other causes though). He actually recovered really well from the abscess cleaning and molar removal, I think the teeth were really…[Read more]

I agree. If it has been this long, then you are likely in the clear. Bunnies have been known to nibble on so-called toxic plants and have no ill effects. This isn’t to say they can’t be poisoned, but it doesn’t seem to happen very often.

Oh yes, I remember Link and Zelda! 🙂

I don’t know if it is a “common” practice in the UK. It isn’t terribly common in the US, but it seems more and more vets are willing to try such treatment when surgery isn’t a good option. Obviously, it is preferable to surgically remove the infection and any affected bone. But there are definitely cases when…[Read more]

So I tried their fourth date — would’ve been their fifth if I did a session yesterday but didn’t have time — I don’t know how to go about it. We had it go on longer till it seemed they weren’t interested in each other.

First was the usual deal, some nipping, a little fight, some chasing and grunting. At some point Shadow went to hump Zelda but…[Read more]

    Hey, Bam.

    Good memory!

Yeah, Link was an absolute trooper.

We lost him almost exactly two years ago. Link and Navi were incredibly close and Navi had to go in for surgery after eating crayons and developing an obstruction. Link didn’t cope with her going away, even temporarily and he just… Gave up, for lack of a better term.

    Even after him…[Read more]

Frances Harcourt Brown says acute plant poisoning usually manifests with symptoms within 6 hours sfter ingestion. If your rabbits havent shown any signs of poisoning after 12 hours, you should be in the clear. From what I can find, Strelizia (bird of paradise) isnt very poisonous.

Of course keep a close eye on appetite and poop, encourage…[Read more]

Help! My Holland lop ate 3-4 leaves from my birds of paradise house plant last night around 11pm. It’s been about 12 hours now and he hasn’t shown any signs/symptoms of poison. I’m worried that the plant might be toxic to him. Has anyone experienced this before? It’s the birds of paradise indoor hours plant (not the flower).

Hello! So my rabbit also ate a few leaves of the birds of paradise plant. Did your bunnies end up developing any symptoms? I’m worried and I’m not sure if I should bring my pet in for a check up at the animal hospital.

I remember you well, especially Link. I actually often think of him and how amazingly good aim he had with just one eye.

From what I recall, one of your vets was Livia Benato, possibly also Richard Saunders? Vets like that zid trust

This is a very difficult decision. I had a bun with very bad teeth, luckily never any abscesses, but severe teeth…[Read more]

The other bun that Ouisie is taking about is our boy Zelda, who we lost in 2013. He’s the bun in my profile picture and we were very active members of the forum back then. As well as with our other buns, Link (he lost an eye during his battles with E. Cuniculi, and Navi)

Daisy isn’t showing any signs of pain while eating. Anything we offer her,…[Read more]

Is she showing signs of pain when she is eating? It may be possible to treat the abscess with antibiotics alone. It may not cure her, but if it isn’t causing her any pain then the antibiotics may help slow the progression. We have had a few people here on the forum with similar situations.

Hi all, it’s been a long time since I’ve been on this forum, have missed it. Life gets so busy though doesn’t it.

We have a wee bun Daisy who we adopted in January 2014, we believe she was about 1 when we got her.
We are really really close with her, she’s the sweetest most loving bun, she free roams our house and loves nothing more than sitting…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Free choice pellets or measured? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 10 months ago

If the bun gets into a bag of measured- type pellets and pigs out completely, it could kill the rabbit, same as getting into a bag of kibble could kill a dog.

But if you measure up measured-type pellets the risk is more about long term health. The bun will get fat if the portion size contains more calories than the bun spends. The bun might lose…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Rabbit in stasis with Jelly poo?? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 10 months ago

Jelly poop can mean the intestinal wall is irritated, or that there’s overgrowth of bad gut bacteria, but in your case, my guess is its the natural end product of EmerAid. I have never used this product myself though. It’s rather different from Critical Care. But jelly poop is still poop, meaning things are passing through and the intestines are…[Read more]

Hello, I have a 1.5yo Flemish giant.  She’s been in GI stasis for almost two weeks.  We are under vet care and she’s getting 1 type of injectable gut mobility (cerina) drug, 2 types of oral mobility drugs (reglan & another), 2 types of pain meds (metacam and gabapentin), baby gas drops, bene-bac plus (probiotic), entice (appetite stimulant), sub q…[Read more]
