Oh and the sniffing thing was very brief. They didn’t get a good chance to truly meet. But it helped Dean loads. That’s why he doesn’t seem to care about having them in the same room. It will be interesting to see when they truly get to really meet. Dean reminds me so much of a dog that just has to smell a spot/item/person/animal. Unhappy till…[Read more]

Yes, I got the results today that Milo had the bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa in his ear as follows:

    Isolate 1 (Pseudomonas aeruginosa)
    Moxifloxacin                  Resistant
    Ceftazidime                   Intermediate
    Amikacin                      Sensitive
    Gentamicin                   Sensitive

Ah, this is helpful! So you have a bonded pair of boys, and then Amara? Or are the boys the ones that just had to be separated? Just trying to get all the bunnies straight.

Sometimes bunnies can have what’s called “referred aggression”, where they are upset about a bunny nearby but then will react negatively towards whoever comes closest to them.…[Read more]

Usually they are in there when we are sleeping. We have a few different play areas that are pretty large idk the dimensions. We also let them run around the entire downstairs den, which is also large so we can spend time with them in our environment. It’s always nice to watch a movie and have one of them come up onto the couch and give us some l…[Read more]

We barely go over to the treat area and all the buns stand up like meerkats to get a treat. We can stealthily go over, but once they hear the slightest twist on one of the containers they go crazy. We keep the Timothy biscuits, dried fruits and veggies in these jars.

Apples are definitely a favorite of all of our buns, but they wouldn’t h…[Read more]

I think this is all related to the “post-spay” craze and hormonal fluctuations, as I mentioned in your other post about bonding.

I think there is a combo of growing up and leaving behind baby-behaviors (like being OK with being handled), being feisty because of hormones, and possibly being upset at another bunny nearby that’s not a bonded…[Read more]

I sure hope so! Their hormones are being so difficult! Idk if it’s their breed or just them as individuals. Pray we survive!

My Flemish giant Amara has been spayed about a month ago. For the last two weeks she’s been not only digging in her box, but kicking everything out of it. She’s only ever dug a little to move things around in the box. It’s never happened with my older buns Sam and Dean, or her brother Ruby Tuesday. How do I get this behavior to stop? It doesn…[Read more]

Sounds like a good plan, hopefully they go back together easily once their hormones mellow out more!

Thanks for the advice. I will separate them for awhile and hopefully it helps these siblings get back to loving each other again.

Thank you so much. The vet examined her and agreed it was time. I think deep down we all know but it’s hard to actually acknowledge it. I have another almost 12 year old bunny and I’m not looking forward to this process again in time. For now he’s full of energy and not slowing down yet! Thanks again.

Agree with Bam, I think separate for a few more weeks to make sure all remaining hormonal fluctuations are done, then you can follow the bonding process and reintroduce them.

Hmmm it looks to be mostly grass to me, I don’t see much or any alfalfa. I think it should be fine for your bunnies. If you notice any clumps of alfalfa you could remove them, but a little alfalfa should be OK.

DanaNM replied to the topic Rabbit vaccinations USA in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 9 months ago

@martini you might be referring to the European RHDV2 vaccines, Eravac and Fillivac? They were under emergency use authorization in the US on a state by state basis, and each vet had to undergo a pretty complicated process to get them. Now with the domestic vaccine, it should be much easier moving forward (though it still might take some time for…[Read more]

You should separate them and start aproper bonding process in a few weeks. A “baby bond” isnt a true bond, and rabbits often become extra hormonal (and thus belligerent) up until about 8 weeks after the spay neuter. If they get into serious fighting now, it could lead to them holding life-long grudges.

I have a male and female Flemish giant rabbits named Ruby Tuesday and Amara. They have been neutered/spayed almost a month ago. They have always gotten along well since I had them. They are a week away from six months old. They have in the last week started to fight (I assume) as a few times in the morning I’ve seen their fur in different places i…[Read more]
