I thank you so much for your advice! I had to kinda sleep on it and relax a bit. I had a hectic weekend on the day of getting her and it took a lot of communicating with my housemate to calm myself down a bit. With my Autism, I am a very routine person, so it probably also freaked me out that I had a new responsibility to work into my routine, As…[Read more]

she did a course of prednisone for approx 6 weeks but most of that was weaning off. i am in southern california and got 2 second opinions before starting her on the prednisone. there is so much scary literature about it so when it was originally suggested i panicked. but every exotic i took her to suggested it since she wasnt responding to nsaids.…[Read more]

Thank you for looking at it.
He’s our only bun at the moment.
We’ve since found some sharp bits on his x-pen, the door isn’t great and a couple of the tie wraps were cut short. I can only think he has caught himself when he’s been zooming around. We have since put black tape over so it’s not sharp anymore.
We’ll keep a close eye on him and hopeful…[Read more]

The scabs look good, dry and no redness and you’ve felt for lumps. It doesnt look like an emergency to me, more like something you could deal with at home with normal wound care. But how did he get the sores? Is he living near another rabbit that could have bit him?

I once had a bun that got 2 similar looking round sores in each ear after…[Read more]

We noticed last night that our bun has two scabs on his back. They move with the skin, there is no lump underneath and he is acting and eating, pooping etc as normal.
He was neutered 10 days ago. Do you think they will heal, should we just keep an eye or make a vets appointment?
    thank you for any help!

Thanks both. That makes me feel a little better, though still such a bummer. Just had got him bonded too.

I wouldn’t be concerned about darker poo as long as overall numbers and consistency are still there– poop will be darker between different types of hay, how much water a rabbit drinks relative to pooing, as well as veggies and such. Those look fine to me.

Yeah, looks like normal poop to me. Color just varies by moisture content and what they are eating overall.

I’m so sorry to hear this and I’m sorry for your loss. I do agree that it was likely a coincidence.

LBJ is right, prednisone can cause gastric  ulceration. You could perhaps just check with your vet if you can give your bun some famotidine (Pepcid) for a week or so and see of things get better appetite-wise? Pepcid is not a strong drug. It’s OTC and inexpensive, but it only comes as a pill, so it needs to be dissolved in water and the…[Read more]

Thanks Bam 🙁 It’s awful, and you’re right, I read the bottle and talked to another vet tech friend and it’s just a coincidence. It’s hard not knowing a cause when he seemed fine right before and wasn’t very old.

All of your listed symptoms check out. His toxin levels were very high, stopped eating, not moving, etc. At first thought GI stasis…[Read more]

How long was she on the prednisone? As you know, steroids should be used with caution in rabbits and are best avoided most of the time. However, there are a few cases where benefits may outweigh the risks (i.e. the need to get inflammation down quickly, etc.). One possible side effect with prednisone is ulcers in the GI tract. Since we don’t see a…[Read more]

hi, yeah EC was ruled out first thing when her back legs became weak. I have another bun in the home (separate from her) with EC. so we were quick to rule it out and actually started to treat her for it day one in case the test came back positive. Her xray showed sublaxation of the disk so we were pretty sure it was just that, and oddly when this…[Read more]
