Unfortunately litter box habits tend to go out the window during bonding, we tend to call them “poop and pee wars”. They are basically marking against the “intruder”. It may not get better until they are fully bonded, but after that they should start to go back to having good habits.

They can definitely be sensitive to certain pellet ingredients, so that sounds like a good plan as well. You might talk to your vet about doing a hay only diet for a little while to try to identify the problem (but important to rule out dental issues before trying that, to make sure they do eat enough hay).

Thanks for your reply! I don’t think the vet checked his teeth when he was in for stasis, he did have them checked way back when he was 6 months and the vet said they looked good. They DO eventually calm down… eventually. Most people don’t wait that long to see if they actually do. LOL  The hormonal behaviors are still there once they calm down, they just aren’t as pronounced. Darker moist poos aren’t the golden standard, but aren’t necessarily bad either. Do the poops tend to have a sheen or smell like onion? Territorial poos can be darker, shinier, and smell.

Personally, my Fable always has dark, less dry poop, but she is healthy and fine and eats hay like a monster.
