That’s really great that the longer date went well, and that Maxwell is feeling better!

It could have been a scab from an old fur tuft pulled in a past tiff. Their skin is so thin that sometimes a fur chunk being pulled will create a scab, even if it doesn’t bleed or look bad when it’s fresh.

DanaNM replied to the topic Sleep through the night instead of eating hay? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 8 months ago

I’ve heard that a good rule of thumb is a bun should spend about 4 hours per day eating hay. I think as he’s not going 12 hours each night without eating, I wouldn’t be too worried, but a check up at the vet is never a bad idea. My buns eat the most hay early in the morning, in the dawn hours, so it could just be that your getting up with him.…[Read more]

I haven’t had my buns vaccinated with this vaccine yet, but I plan to do so once it’s available in my state, so I would say keep the appointment! I am in a group on Facebook about RHDV and while I haven’t been following it that closely, I have seen that large numbers of rescues have vaccinated their buns with Medgene and have not had any major issues.

    Glad he’s perked up!
And I agree, stress was my thought too (and that maybe stress had triggered some gas or grumpiness).

What is the purpose of him sitting in your lap? I don’t think him hopping down once he has what he wants (treat) is an indication that he doesn’t trust you. I don’t think bunnies really understand the concept of sitting or laying on your lap like a dog or cat would. It’s not instinctual for them to want to do that.

As for the picking up… using…[Read more]

That’s good! Yeah, they can be weird. Some bunnies are just prone to gas troubles and the strangest things can set them off.

Hmm well he is ok now, but your question did trigger a memory that he ran under my feet this morning when I brought up his banana.. it’s happened many times and just a small accidental nudge with my foot, haha, but maybe that did scare him. He didn’t finish the banana until I brought it over to him which was weird.

It’s hard to know what throws…[Read more]

Could he be stressed? Sometimes stress causes gas or other GI issues.

No vaccine is completely without risk. However, that risk is extremely small. The benefits far, far, far outweigh the risks. Rabbits that contract RHDV have little chance of survival. It has a very high mortality rate.

The new Medgene vaccine did release trial results. If I remember correctly, there were no deaths during the trial. It’s hard to…[Read more]

That’s okay. I got my first bunny 5 or 6 months ago, and my second bunny 1 or 2 months ago, and neither of them have started shedding yet, though I do get a lot of fur out when I’m brushing them.

    No worries.

They look fine, but if they get smaller than you should start to consider bringing your rabbit to the vet, especially if your rabbit is showing abnormal signs in their diet/behavior.

If your bunnies aren’t that very active and thin, then I would recommend once they are three weeks old then you should start feeding the baby bunnies unlimited timothy alfalfa hay (I highly recommend Oxbow hay because I believe it has the most nutrients) and once your baby bunnies are 3-4 weeks old they should start being fed unlimited alfalfa…[Read more]

Oh I forgot, when I was attempting a tummy massage since Max was acting off, I felt what was maybe a scratch or scab. Couldn’t help but wonder if Ruby did it but I guess that would have been over 3 weeks by now..

I would bring my bunny to the vet if she was in this situation. It is the best thing to do if you think your rabbit has a broken tail and a dirty bottom. That can cause serious health problems. Bringing your rabbit to the vet is the best thing you can do if you rabbit has a broken bone. Your rabbit may have a poopy bottom maybe due to the food…[Read more]

Thank you Bam and LBJ10. I feel better now but still keep his appointment just to be safe. My previous bun to me was more of a “normal” bunny who at least ate hay during the night. Glad to hear it’s not abnormal for him to sleep through the night. Thank you !

Hi, just dropping by to wish everyone Merry Christmas! 😀

My hands are slowly getting better, and I can do a little embroidery again ^_^ I made 3 Christmas cards this year, featuring Breintje, Molly and Owen in a very silent night. It’s a fictional scene for now: the tree is still upright as we speak. No guarantees about the future……[Read more]

I personally recommend you keep the appointment. Remember that while vaccinating rabbits is very new to the US this past year, it has been a practice for hundreds and hundreds of domestic rabbits owned by responsible owners in European countries and Australia for years. While they have different vaccines themselves (we don’t import from them I…[Read more]
