I also have a senior male bun that is prone to hormonal behaviors (excessive mounting and peeing all over)!  I did have the vet check him thoroughly for bladder issues, as there have been some cases on BB where an older male bun had a bladder stone that was triggering these types of behaviors.

In my case, the vet could not find any issues, but I…[Read more]

It’s been several hours and its still working 😃

She obviously has lots of stuff to chew, cardboard boxes and apple twigs, a willow tunnel and a piece of birch wood- but anybunny would agree its way more fun to chew what youre not supposed to.

Fingers crossed, hope that she’ll leave it be! ^_^

I’ve had to reapply the garlic last night after Molly took a little nibble at the wood again. That’s about 8 days since I used it first.

Thank you both so much for taking the time to reply. This happened nearly 3 weeks ago. I was starting to feel ok (and feeling guilty about that too) but yesterday it was almost like reliving the whole thing again. Reading this when I woke up this morning helped me more than you know.

Thanks all for your responses. I have treated him for mites although once I put the treatment on he spent the rest of the day grooming himself.

I got a second opinion from a different vet they done a skin scrape test and found no mites. They found no fleas either, in fact they gave him a clean bill of health

I have gotten an air purifier and I’m…[Read more]

I could really use some advice!

My bunny is turning 8 this January. He has been neutered at age of 3 months, and had no hormonal behavior since, except for very rare mounting / chasing legs. Literally few times in all the years.

We moved  2 years ago, and Muffin doesn’t really like the place – he stomps every other night, and so has to be moved…[Read more]

That might be it. I’ve got the heating on most of the type, I’m in South London and I hate the cold. I’m going to put the heating down to 17°c and see if it makes a difference for him. I’ll just start wearing jumpers indoors.

    Thanks for that

🤣 A rabbit can certainly be determined!

I just rubbed the wooden underside of my mum’s tv-lounger with half a clove of garlic. We’re spending the  holidays at her house, and Snoa has taken a vivid interest in all things wood.

I think it would be a little harder for a person to pass salmonella on to a rabbit. It’s transmitted through saliva or via fecal-oral route. So as long as you’re not kissing your rabbit or contaminating their food with your poo… I suppose if a person had salmonella, they would want to thoroughly wash their hands before handling any food.

    As…[Read more]

This can sometimes happen when a vet office sees all kinds of animals. The receptionists don’t always know and they rattle off the instructions for a dog or cat. I would confirm with the vet (or at least the vet tech) that will be doing the surgery… just to make sure they hadn’t intended for you to receive those instructions and that they do…[Read more]

Apparently you could catch salmonella from a rabbit: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Health_FAQ

… Whether it can happen the other way around, I do not know; however rabbits can definitely get salmonella which is why us owners need to be privvy to recalls of veggies and such!

I would verify that the operating vet and team are rabbit-experienced — it could be a matter of receptionist error and saying it automatically for dogs/cats. If willing, I’d also just let someone know that you were informed to do that mistakenly so their team can be more mindful in the future.

yeah, im hoping that the person at the desk just wasnt told about it and that the actual vet knows that their food shouldnt be taken away.

When I got my rabbit spayed I was told to fed her the morning of and that it was better to fed her because with rabbits you want to keep their gut moving but also there shouldn’t be any kind of risk or complications because you don’t have to worry about rabbit aspirating like a dog or cat.

im thinking that maybe the person at the desk just assumed she cant have food because its that way with dogs and cats? i would ask to talk to the vet but i dont think theyd let me.

hi! so i made an appointment for my rabbit to be spayed, and the lady at the desk is telling me that she cannot have food the morning of her surgery. i know that’s not right so i called back to double check and she told me it can cause “complications” if she has anything in her stomach. there are no other vets near me that will see rabbits and my…[Read more]

Hi everyone! This is a totally random question, but can rabbits get salmonella from people? Like if I had salmonella (I don’t, but theoretically), what would I do in terms of caring for my bunny and what are the chances that he could contract salmonella from me? Also, how common is salmonella in pet rabbits? I know that there are recalls on p…[Read more]

So two nights ago we went to get her hamster. We went to Petco and she found a really cute teddy bear hamster. We noticed its butt was wet and told the worker, but the worker said it was just because he was sitting in his water, he was so we figured it must be that and that he didn’t have wet tail. Wet tail is a deadly disease very common in…[Read more]
