koj started the topic Is my bunny underweight? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 7 months ago
Hi all, my bunny is a 1-year old lion head mix and is on the smaller side. We took her to the vet last month and they weighed her to be 3.5 pounds. I believe when she was around 4-5 months, she was 3.8 pounds. The vet didn’t mention anything about her weight, but I can feel her spine, hip bone, and ribs pretty easily. The spine isn’t sharp but…[Read more]

After thinking a bit over break, I’ve decided to just keep 2 pairs. I feel wrong seeing Bear so stressed at her age and in her condition from the couple of times I put them together and it just seems unnecessary. I have basically an entire level of the house to split between them, so there’s no actual reason to do it. Instead of having one huge…[Read more]

Thank you for the support. She’s eating hay, it’s keeping her hydrated that’s super hard to do. I don’t know why she’s refusing to drink. To hydrate her I’m giving her as much Critical Care as I can (I refill her bowl when it empties and/or change it when it gets “too old” for her). I’m also giving her diluted gas drops because she loves those a…[Read more]

I think it’s normal for things to not be 100% snuggle fest, but if you think the tunnels made things worse, don’t be afraid to remove them. You’re doing great!

If she’s getting CC and eating her hay, that’s great for both fiber and hydration, I wasn’t sure where she was at with those.
Hang in there, hopefully you can get some answers soon. I know it’s soooo stressful caring for chronic cases like this. 🙁

I am providing critical care as much as possible. She’s not as eager to drink it as she was a few days ago and I’m scared to force it because she’s already in pain and stressed.
No, her non-emergency vet hasn’t gotten a chance to see her again since her really bad GI attack. I’m going to go through all of the possibilities with him on Monday. I…[Read more]

I’m sorry she’s still up and down. 🙁
Bene-bac is really commonly given to rabbits and isn’t known to cause issues, so it could be worth a try. Usually it’s used in cases of cecal dysbiosis.
Fiber and hydration are really the name of the game, so the more fluids and fiber you can get into her, the better. Are you still giving critical…[Read more]

Yes, I did end up leaving them for a bit today when they were sleeping. Everything was fine.
So, since I put in the tunnels, the last 12 hours they haven’t really cuddled much or interacted. Still a little mutual grooming and cuddling at least. Recently was a very brief tense moment, and I only had to say stop, so not sure what to make of today.…[Read more]

Welcome! It’s great that you are doing your research, and wonderful that you are thinking of rescuing.
I think my biggest tip of a free-roam bun would be to start out with a pen-set up, so your bun has an area that is just “theirs” with their hay, litter box, water bowl, a hide, and some toys. It helps the bun to settle in to have them confined…[Read more]

I watched the ball drop live stream for about the last few minutes before midnight, ha!
We get the keys to our new place on the 10th, and are getting the moving truck on the 11th. I’m thinking it would be best to wait until we get the furniture all moved to get the buns, so probably the 13th? But I may not be able to resist that long!

I noticed I always felt fine leaving mine briefly alone if it was during their sleepy time of day, but then I’d supervise closely when they were active. So if you feel comfortable with that, that’s an option too. I think you know them well enough to go with your gut on this one.

DanaNM replied to the topic very aggressive behavior in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 7 months ago
That must be so upsetting. 🙁 Hormones can make this happen, so spaying should help a lot. It can take several weeks for things to improve though, so be patient with her. For now, wear thick gloves and move slowly and calmly when you do things around her cage. If she bites you, just stay put and don’t with draw your hand, but do make a loud…[Read more]

Aww that sounds like she has plenty of space to play!
The time between hormones kicking in and waiting for a spay can be a really tough time for us humans but behaviour almost always settles back down a few weeks post spay.
Not sure what to say about the increase in attacking over the last couple days or her only attacking you… Bunnies can be…[Read more]

She is going in and out of GI stasis. She has an appointment on the 3rd and I could find anyone on Thursday or Friday to see her. I’m managing to put whatever I can into her to help her digestive system. She doesn’t poop most of the day, then everything I give her kicks in around the evening and she poops. I was wondering if giving her “He…[Read more]

It is normal for rabbits to show territorial aggression when they hit puberty. She may see you as invading her territory. The good news is this behaviour should settle down a lot a few weeks post spay. I don’t believe there is such this as a mean bunny.
You mentioned cage a few times in your post, what is her set up like? Cages alone aren’t…[Read more]
