This suggests to me that the nail was damaged before and it just now fell off.

My bun, Binkie, broke one of her toenails a few years ago. There was some blood on her paw and the floor so I cleaned it up. When the nail grew back it was crooked for a while, but after a bit it eventually grew out properly and went back to normal. She was okay, no infection and didn’t require a vet visit. Sending some love for your bun, anyway! โก

Thank you so much! I didnโt see any blood anywhere on his blankets or bedding! He is grooming the foot, but it doesnโt seem to bother him when heโs hopping around- he even jumped up on my bed right after and binkied around!

Hi DanaNM
Thanks for replying. It’s nice to have a second opinion as the way she was acting was similar to when we tried to bond female to female so we were immediately fearing the worst.
Yes, Honey is ridiculously cheeky, what makes it harder is she’s smaller than the average bunny and when she acts all feisty, it’s hard not to find it…[Read more]

It could be an “old” injury. Sometimes a nail will get caught on the carpet and it will be damaged, but it won’t fall off right away. This can happen with people too, if they smash a fingernail and injury the nail bed. The nail eventually falls off. With rabbits, when the damaged nail falls off, it will often leave a little nub behind that has the…[Read more]

Little pros, some cons, lots of stress.
Pros โ still swapping litter boxes, weโve done cross petting side by side without anybody attempting to bite/nip their neighbor
Cons โ still just the referred aggression and nervousness among the four buns
Since my last post, we did a couple more dates that seemed pretty neutral. The girls were more nervo…[Read more]

Thank you! He has an appointment with a specialist on Tuesday for unrelated issues, so I will mention it to her then. He is being seen for GI issues, so I would like to avoid oral antibiotics if possible to prevent any further GI upset. Hopefully it will heal on its own.

They both need to be neutered — hormones are invisible and it’s impossible to predict when and how either rabbit will react to one of them still being intact. Also, both rabbits are still young, so the likelihood that the other rabbit will act more on hormones as he ages. Any relationship that includes at least one intact rabbit is considered a…[Read more]

Infection and/or some sort of injury is possible — I would recommend seeing a rabbit-savvy vet to better examine the foot. If it snagged on something, it’d be good to get a professional to thoroughly examine the foot for signs of injury, as well as prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection.

Hi everyone. I went to check on my bunny tonight and I found a toenail on the ground. He ran right up to me and begged for treats as he normally would. I picked him up to examine him and found that it was from the outside toe on his hind left foot. He pulled his foot away when I touched it because I’m sure it is tender, but he is banking around…[Read more]

Dear all,
I adopted a couple baby bunnies (males: Alex and Haldir) in September last year, they are 5 months old now. I was ready to neuter them, but after the Christmas vacation, their sitter said they behave so good I should think about breeding them. When she said that, I started to think about getting a black female as we lost our beloved…[Read more]

Aww I’m so happy they are doing well! I love when they just suddenly are glued to each other. And yes, they will definitely get into more mischief together!
That sounds like a good plan! I’m reading this a few days later, hoping it all went well!

I love when animals named Honey are super feisty! My mom had a horse named Honey that was such a brat LOL
Since Honey seemed to like New Boy, I don’t think she’s a bun that just prefers to be solo. Females in general tend to be more territorial, so I don’t think her acting aggressively towards the new new boy (I’ll call him New 2 to avoid…[Read more]

Hi! My name is Ellie, my Rabbit Joey is 4 years old (almost 5) and the last few months we have been trying to save him! ย Back in late October of 2021 I found a mass behind his ear. He was taken to an emergency vet and following his regular vet. They determined it was an abscess. They attempted to drain it and give him antibiotics but it was…[Read more]

Agreed that that specific pattern of fur loss is common with rabbits who chew cage bars. If that is the case, you can see here for some tips on preventing that: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Training_FAQ#My_rabbit_keeps_me_up_by_consistently_chewing_his_cage_bars._How_do_I_make_him_stop.3F

Ahhh so funny!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I happen to be in an art class with my friend’s sister. Yesterday my friend told me that her sister had come home from art class yesterday and told her, “That really nice bunny girl is in my class.” I was on the floor laughing. There is even a 5yr. old boy that calls me that!
It could have something to do with that…[Read more]

I agree with the others. Just a pile of hay doesn’t mean anything. Rabbits like to push hay around and dig. Without the actual nesting behavior accompanying it, I think it’s probably just normal rearranging of hay.

Hihi, congratulations Parsleybun ^_^ It’s always nice to be recognised ๐
