No problem! I agree, it sounds like an old injury so I don’t think it’s that serious. But monitor him anyway, and give him some loving nose rubs for us! ♡

That’s good to know! Well at the moment we have enough time and space to keep going so we will hopefully see some improvement.

I like the brush idea, I’ll incorporate that in as well and then build up to swapping their sides over the next few days.

She’s a little nervous like you’d expect but isn’t totally petrified, we will try a car ride if…[Read more]

I agree with Wick&Fable, they should both be neutered for a stable bond to form. It’s also possible that they are just hitting puberty at slightly different rates, so Haldir might have some behavior changes as well if you don’t neuter him. His friendly behaviors will not go away with neutering.

Also just wanted to remind you that discussion of…[Read more]

Hmm, that’s tough. Things do sometimes seem to get worse before they get better. It may help you to read through some trio and quad bonding journals to get a sense of how things can progress. It’s important just to keep letting them spend time together in neutral territory, and do your best to prevent fighting. Experimenting with the space can…[Read more]

hi, so I have been bonding my 3 rabbits for a few months now and they have gotten to the point where they can live with each other without supervision in a “neutral” territory. they groom each other, eat together, flop beside each other, etc. but now i am not sure what to do next or how to transition them back to their actual area as when i hav…[Read more]

Honey sounds like my Bunston (the little brown bun in my avatar). He was a false dwarf (we think), and was so feisty! He was super tough to bond with Bertha (the other bun in my avatar), but they were madly in love once they finally bonded.

I think you are on the right track and doing the pre-bonding will help. It may take a week or more to see…[Read more]

Awesome thank you! He is acting totally normal and seems to be using the foot just fine. It is tender and sensitive if I touch it, which doesn’t surprise me, but he is still hopping, binkying, jumping, etc. I just examined it and it did break pretty close to the toe and there is a small amount of dried blood on the end of the nail, but I d…[Read more]

That makes sense! He is still running, binkying, hopping on/off of my bed and standing up on his hind legs to take treats from me. I tried to examine it but anytime I touched the toe or the nail, he just thumped at me, so I left him alone. I’ll keep an eye on him, but he doesn’t seem to bothered!

This suggests to me that the nail was damaged before and it just now fell off.

My bun, Binkie, broke one of her toenails a few years ago. There was some blood on her paw and the floor so I cleaned it up. When the nail grew back it was crooked for a while, but after a bit it eventually grew out properly and went back to normal. She was okay, no infection and didn’t require a vet visit. Sending some love for your bun, anyway! ♡

Thank you so much! I didn’t see any blood anywhere on his blankets or bedding! He is grooming the foot, but it doesn’t seem to bother him when he’s hopping around- he even jumped up on my bed right after and binkied around!

    Hi DanaNM

Thanks for replying. It’s nice to have a second opinion as the way she was acting was similar to when we tried to bond female to female so we were immediately fearing the worst.

Yes, Honey is ridiculously cheeky, what makes it harder is she’s smaller than the average bunny and when she acts all feisty, it’s hard not to find it…[Read more]

It could be an “old” injury. Sometimes a nail will get caught on the carpet and it will be damaged, but it won’t fall off right away. This can happen with people too, if they smash a fingernail and injury the nail bed. The nail eventually falls off. With rabbits, when the damaged nail falls off, it will often leave a little nub behind that has the…[Read more]

Little pros, some cons, lots of stress.

Pros – still swapping litter boxes, we’ve done cross petting side by side without anybody attempting to bite/nip their neighbor

Cons – still just the referred aggression and nervousness among the four buns

Since my last post, we did a couple more dates that seemed pretty neutral. The girls were more nervo…[Read more]

Thank you! He has an appointment with a specialist on Tuesday for unrelated issues, so I will mention it to her then. He is being seen for GI issues, so I would like to avoid oral antibiotics if possible to prevent any further GI upset. Hopefully it will heal on its own.

They both need to be neutered — hormones are invisible and it’s impossible to predict when and how either rabbit will react to one of them still being intact. Also, both rabbits are still young, so the likelihood that the other rabbit will act more on hormones as he ages. Any relationship that includes at least one intact rabbit is considered a…[Read more]

Infection and/or some sort of injury is possible — I would recommend seeing a rabbit-savvy vet to better examine the foot. If it snagged on something, it’d be good to get a professional to thoroughly examine the foot for signs of injury, as well as prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection.
