It’s not recommended. Many essential oils are not safe for rabbits as they can build up in their systems. Rabbits have very sensitive respiratory systems, so incense would likely be irritating to them.
I think if the incense was burned a while ago and the room had aired out (so just a faint smell remaining), that would probably be OK.

DanaNM replied to the topic Bad GI Stasis?? Or another surgery needed?? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 7 months ago
I agree with LBJ10, I would not give up yet or jump to extreme treatments just yet.
I always go back to this article: http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html
Especially this bit:
“It is essential that the caretaker faced with a rabbit in GI stasis be patient, allowing the treatments and medications to work. Rabbits are easily stressed, and…[Read more]

Is it safe to burn incense or put essential oils in a diffuser with my rabbit in the room? Would it helped if I opened a window or cut on a fan? Or can I allow him in a room that has HAD incense burnt in it (the smoke has gone out and only the smell remains)

Endive and cilantro are low calcium options. 🙂
Romaine lettuce is also good and usually well-tolerated.
Here’s a chart from an older article about rabbit nutrition with calcium content of various foods (most of the super low calcium things are fruits):

Poor Muffin! What an ordeal!
I do think his bladder (and soreness from having it expressed) could be at least partially to blame for the peeing. There could be some small crystals that ended up in his urethra that are causing him to dribble urine for some reason. Since a lot of the sludge was removed, hopefully things will improve a bit more.…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic advice? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 7 months ago
Most rabbits do better in the car than we expect them too. They usually just settle down and rest, especially if it’s freeway driving. You can put familiar smelling blankets in the carrier for her, and I think she will be just fine.
I agree that the vet was probably just trying to give very “informed consent”, but maybe that came across in a way…[Read more]

Thank you! I honestly think that I’m way more worried about this than I need to be, the specialist did not seem concerned at all and seemed to think that he would be good as new in no time!
Since I introduced the Orchard and Timothy mix a few hours ago, he has been LOVING it! I think he really likes the texture of the softer Orchard over the T…[Read more]

I’m so sorry this happened but very glad he’s improved!
He may eat the critical care off of a plate or spoon as well, since it sounds like he took it willingly!

Sometimes when buns get into the habit of doing something, they are hard to break from it! Since his cage is his box, he prob figures he’s still going “in his box” by jumping on top!
Is the cage set up in a way that you could remove the roof? Or maybe forgot the cage entirely and have his setup in a pen instead? Maybe a completely new arrangement…[Read more]

Does he eat plenty of hay? If so, then I agree with the others that it’s prob due to fur. If you notice he doesn’t eat that much hay (or his appetite for hay goes down), or you notice a lot of large pieces of unchewed hay in his poop I suggest getting his teeth checked. One of my past buns had some molar issues and the first symptom was weird…[Read more]

I’m not familiar with that medication, but it is discussed in this medirabbit article: http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/GI_diseases/Generalities/Enteritis_en.htm
I think adding a variety of grass hays is a good idea, and you are right that fiber is the name of the game.
How many pellets does he normally get? And how many treats and fruits does he…[Read more]

Well, we got the go ahead to resume the bonding from our exotics vet!

Alright, so I just picked up the liquid nystatin and he is supposed to get 1.8 ml every 12 hours for 10 days. He is pretty difficult to medicate and that’s a lot of medication, so we will see how this goes. My biggest fear ever is him aspirating from giving meds/baby gas drops/critical care. From what I have read online and other forums, it a…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic bonding rabbits in non-neutral territory in the forum BONDING 4 years, 7 months ago
Hmmm, so how long have they been spending in neutral territory?
Some pairs need a slower transition, and a period of supervision again.
Is there a way you can build a temporary “semi-neutral” territory? Such as a pen set up in the room they use for exercise, but not their main cage/pen?
Also, whenever I move buns to their final home, I clean…[Read more]
