I agree with Wick, it does look like ear mites (Psoroptes cuniculiis) since ear mites also affects the inside of the ears. Ear mites are best treated with Revolution (selamectin) spot on, or injectable ivermectin. A vet can prescribe and administer that.
Here’s a warning we always give when discussing anti-parasitics for rabbits: Never use any…[Read more]

Argh, this is driving me up the wall! Sorry, but I have to vent with people who understand bunnies. A friend of mine is a very gentle soul who thinks the best of everyone. We’ve got the idea that she’s been massively duped by a shelter bonding service for the second time in a row now 🙁
She adopted a very young bunny who turned out to have PTSD,…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Replacement for hay? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 7 months ago
These are suggestions commonly given for temporary no-hay situations: “Running out of hay is not optimal, but if you at least have pellets, you can increase and split their daily portion over the course of the day into at least 3 feedings to make sure that they are still eating throughout the day. If you have a yard with grass, you can also…[Read more]

Please take your rabbit to a rabbit-savvy exotic veterinarian for treatment — it is likely ear mites.
At-home treatment without proper veterinary diagnosis, assessment, and guidance is not recommended.

I agree, it doesn’t hurt to give pain medication for a little longer just as a precaution.

How old is your bun? And how much does she weigh?
I think you could prob start with half a leaf for a few days, then increase to a full leaf if she’s doing well with it (unless she’s very small). Wait a full week before adding any additional new foods.

If he was prescribed it, then it would be safe to give him the regular dosage, even if you aren’t sure he’s still in pain. Rabbits do hide their pain well, so if you suspect he has any lingering symptoms it’s OK to give him some.

I looked at the paper they gave us and it said general anesthesia.
We’ve decided we will take him in and just hope he gets through it fine. At the very least he needs the pain meds for longer though he was a champ today. Eating like normal and bounding around.

Hello!
So my little guy had to go in for an emergency visit and he was having pain on this right side and a distended cecum. So the vet prescribed meloxidyl. It says “give as needed” and he got some yesterday, today he’s 99% of 100% and doesn’t seem to be in pain. Would it hurt to give him more just in case?

I’m so happy to hear she’s responding well and that you got a second opinion! I agree that dose sounds fine for a “maintenance” dose.
If you’re going to look into alternative therapies, you might also look into chiropractic, there are some animal chiro’s that have worked with rabbits.
You might also try supplementing her with Myristol. It’s a…[Read more]
