Hey Cinnamon, I am not sure about nasal culture. But for fecal culture it costs around 150 CAD. Culture is little expensive but it gives a good idea what kind of organisms and what antibiotic is susceptible to. My worry is your bun is already on antibiotic so it may not give a positive culture result. We usually wait for a week or 2 to have…[Read more]

Funny, Loki doesn’t have any bad habits. It’s my CAT who is freakin’ mental for tape and adhesive! When I get my box of paper litter from Small Pet Select, and open it, she makes a beeline for the tape. Lunatic. I heard a crash late one night, and rushed downstairs thinking I had a home invader, only to find Dotty running around in a panic wit…[Read more]

I’ve been gone a long while, and I apologize. I’ve been more than a little caught up in outside things. More to follow. I’ve missed you, fellow bunneh slaves!

Okay, this is all good advice. Thanks! He goes back to the clinic for his revolution mite treatment so I’ll ask her about using a different antibiotic and the culture swab. By the way, how much do culture swabs usually cost? And how do I determine if there’s a possibility that he could be allergic to something else in the house, like in the air?…[Read more]

When a rabbit is in a new environment, it tends to take care not to make a fuss. Making a fuss can draw the attention of predators. That’s in part why vet techs and professional groomers can cut the nails of pets with such apparent ease. So it’s highly likely that your bun sat in that former owner’s knee just because he thought it safer to sit…[Read more]

I guess this is more of an update and a shared log of their bonding at this point rather than direct questions.
The reason I say this is because they seem to have entered a nice phase where I am no longer worried about one attacking the other. I am still worried that that a scuffle could lead to a fight if intervention doesn’t happen but I can…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Thoughts on lethargy in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 6 months ago
I’m glad she’s responding so well to the meloxicam! When my old dog had arthritis pain, she was referred to a dog physotherapist for cold laser treatment (and water treadmill, but that’s obviously not suitable for rabbits). She was also on a daily NSAID (same type of med as meloxicam), so I couldn’t tell if the cold laser made any difference.

Thank you!
That’s really helpful to know! The specialist has said to pursue with the pain medication for one month and then slowly take her off of it and see how she goes. My thinking is he’s ruling out other conditions that would be treated the same way since I was hesitant to have her anesthetised after the last time.
I have had a look for…[Read more]

Rosie replied to the topic HELP PREGNANT RABBIT?? BOTH FEMALE?? in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 7 months ago
All three of my first rabbits where female and they would rearrange or nest even when not pregnant sometimes they would pull out there fur to add to the nest. Don’t panic. It’s normal for them to do this sometimes, especially at peek hormonal times.

Likely will be fine — may have an upset stomach for a bit so just push hay and water consumption.

I was gone for 5 minutes and came back to see my rabbit with the bag of digestive support. I immediately took it away from him, but I don’t know how many he ate. I already fed him his daily tablet. What should I do? He seems healthy and binkying currently, but I’m scared of the long term effects.

Bam replied to the topic My bunny’s head won’t stop twitching in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 7 months ago
If the head goes from one side to the other at the same pace, it could be scanning, which is normal. If the head is moving slowly to one side and then quickly back, it could be nystagmus; that’s most likely what google told you. Nystagmus is a neurological issue that can be caused by e cuniculi or a middle ear infection.

This looks like scanning. But the not being able to hop in a straight line part is concerning.

my bunny is 7 years old, I have had him since he was a few months old. Recently, as in the past three or so days, he has been bobbing his head to the side, then quickly adjusting it back to looking forward. It looks like his eye is also moving (as if he was looking behind him before he moves it back forward). I’m very concerned since g…[Read more]

Gosh thank you so much for that answer.
It really reassures me that I’m not doing too bad.
As for picking him up, I don’t seem to be able to do it even with proper technique. He kicks everywhere and freak out, but maybe my technique ain’t that good…
Secondly, I’ve only had him for 6 days so it hasn’t even been 2 weeks and I’ve changed the…[Read more]

Hey everyone! Thank you for all of the help and advice. Mickey seems to be doing well. His poops were normal all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. He had some excess cecotropes this evening that were mushy, but he had normal stool after that. I am still giving him the Nystatin and I do think it’s helping, I’m also giving him BeneBac as nee…[Read more]
